lol, for now, i think the prob with black sand is keeping it looking nice, time will tell on that, but YES, this does look aWESOME, if this becomes manageable as far as looks, I will seriously consider swapping the sand out in my 90. Thats gonna be tough, but this look would be worth it. Corals would look amazing against this.

doing well, sadly the clams and other corals have started to kill some params, so I had to start dosing kalk, and now have had to up water changes again. Its like all the corals just went on a growth spurt and started sucking everything up. Oh well, thinking some dosing pumps will be in not so far plans:( But this tank seems like its gonna be a fun little challenge, I like the thought of trying to perfect the bbs cycle and minimze time involved. I wanna see if i can make this tank less than 10-15 minutes a day of maintenance. The hatching a bbs is gonna be the challenge in that.

I guess everyone has teir preferences I personally love cctitters not just cuz their prices are insanely good, but they have fantastic service and a fairly good collection of uncommon livestock.

thats good to know, I'm def gonna order from roxysreef.com, she just hooked me up with what I would call a great deal. And I am gonna order some ric's and other things from ccritters as well, they do have GREAT deals and shipping costs. But for this tank, I wanna avoid anything nasty gettting into it, and I feel better with roxys tank bred horses over wild caught. And personally, I'll always pay more for tank bred than wild caught, no matter what the species.

But thanks for the help, I'll prob need more.;)

Also, lights on aquariums where seahorses reside should not cut off abruptly or abruptly switch from day to night light. The immediate cut on and off of lights will make a seahorse deteriorate rapidly and it has been analyzed that it may be the reason why seahorses have much shorter lifespans in captivity. Insure that you are aiding in the survival of the seahorse(s) your keeping instead of shortening its existence to about a year. Be a successful seahorse keeper for many years and find a simple way to help the lighting simulate a gradual sunrise and sunset without a sudden switch and never leave them in the dark.

Do I smell a RapidLED build coming our way???? :)

Damn you chris, I hate you;) lol

I know, I know, been reading that. They are supposed to get 12 hours of light for breeding. Here's my plan for now. ESPN/mike and mike comes on right near the tank at about 7:45 in the AM, gonna put the lights on a timer to turn on at 9 AM, then off at 9PM, by then the TV will be back on.

But yes, I will be upgrading the lights and tank. I'm watching a few of the ecoxotic glass rimless on ebay.

Here's a question on that front though. How do you do a rapid system on a 5g that is functional and dimmable? 4 leds, what drives that small number of lights? I don't want much light because I don't want to deal with algae and cyano. Sorry, was gonna put some thought into this, but haven't yet. But the tank I got is plastic, and thus won't last long as it scratches EASY. So we will have a build upgrade. I'm thinking I'll up it to a 30-40 g tall so I can put some other species in there, the question is, what can I put with dwarves? I'll have to read up. Can I put a erectus with them?

    Thanks for the Welcome!!!

<STRONGLY AGREE> I use dimmers on all my Seahorse LED lights! You can get the attachment that works with most 12v cords for ready-made LED lights on eBay for under $10. Or I know of many places that have pretty inexpensive custom systems that do the same if you don't already have ready-made lighting. You can even easily separate the day/night lights (if not already on separate cords) and put them on a dimming timer. Simple DIY and I agree necessity for any seahorse set up!!! I'm proud to say my Erectus just turned 10 and I'm sure the little things like gradual lighting has definitely helped in terms of his longevity. :)
