Thanks for the link, although, I read for weeks and all I heard was keeping a routine lighting cycle, nothing about sunrise/sunset. But then again, thats a very recent thing that is available.

Based on that, I think I'm going to order a blue moonlight strip and a white strip, and leave the moonlights on 24/7, and have the white led strip turn on 1/2 hour before the main lights and stay on 1/2 hour after. Cheap and easy, I think i have the timers laying around.

Well if it's a well known fact, how come the subject doesn't come up on the biggest seahorse site available, seahorse.org? There are plenty of posts regarding lighting, but not that you need to have phased in/out lighting.
I've been on the org now for ten years and haven't come across it.
As for the link, it is only an opinion of Pete's and there is nothing scientific to back it up.
What I am looking for is documentation that can show that it is beneficial.

im not here to argue, but that is definitely one of the first thins i learned when it came to caring for seahorses. its rather easy to have a dawn/dusk photoperiod. with mine sometimes i even just open a window in the room so just enough sun can seep through. so ill turn off the lights before there is no more sun coming through the window, and ill turn them on when the sun is shining right in.

Why do you open a window to let light in?? lol, sorry. i know what you meant though. I think my idea will work though? YES or NO? I'm going to set up some form of a system as the tank is in the dark basement. Back to the build thread;)

OK, 4 days in and cycle is still running, amm .025, trite about 2.0, trate about 10. Kinda hoping we're close to running threw. I did add extra food last night to create a spike so hopsfully thats what caused a small ammonia spike, hoping it drops tomorrow. Not sure that i'd trust bio spira to do as it claims though.

Well, the way to know if the cycle is finished is to add some ammonia and bring the level to 1ppm and see if it clears overnight.
