Well, this hobby is full of ups and downs and if we didn't think that, we weren't really reefing. Right?

So, I have a downer. I posted it local first, but I figured I'd share! This is a copy/paste from my local.

I came home and noticed a spongodes not looking so hot, double take turned into a neck snap. I certainly didn't buy those and I don't think I like what they're doing.

So, I have contacted anyone that has been recent and that has not been a long list at all. I don't move a lot of coral. However, I have not heard from anyone that it has shown up on their side. I tell as many people I can to dip everything from everyone, that I would expect my coral to get dipped.
I also want to warn anyone that has gotten anything from me in passing to give everything a double check, double dip... get out the bayer, magnifying glasses and toothbrush. :-B It has been a while since I think anyone has gotten anything, but this is why this post is here. I do not want other people to have problems because of me, please contact me if you do. I will talk to you and figure something out. I will help anyone I can with whatever I can, even if it's to borrow a jug of bayer at 11:30pm. text/pm me... if I'm up, I'll help!

I have no idea where these came from. I've read different reports of different dormant periods for the eggs. So, I cannot track when these could have came from. I don't want to... I believe 100% that nobody does this maliciously. We all love these corals too much.

Remember, bayer doesn't kill eggs. (This right here is why this is my fault 100%) I put this into my system and now I'm paying for it. :|

This was off of the spongodes, about 2x2 piece.

This was after the dip, still hanging on, dead but this is why the toothbrush is important.

By the time I had gotten to it, they had eaten around the entire rim and into the topography and fast. Even though I dipped it, I still threw the coral away. Not worth it...
I'm going to continue to dip every 3 days or until I stop seeing these bastards. Most of my monti caps are loose and I can dip them. Some, I'm just going to watch and well... %-( Some get tossed.

This sucks. But if I come out of this better at inspecting/handling frags (or anything that goes into the tank), then I will hopefully avoid something like this in the future. Remember to wear your raincoat :D

Nothing to do now but try and enjoy the weekend. :-bd :-j

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Well dang.

MEN, so easy to miss. Their coloration does not lend to easy detection.

It's been a long time since I have had any interesting in them but I used to hear people were using Flatworm Exit?

Never having met you in person but seeing your posting here and on other forums it seems to me anyone familiar with you knows you're straight up. These things happen. Personally I do not buy local any longer, it's just rampant in my local area, nudibranch ( I have seem them climbing the walls of aquariums at the LFStores), FW, RB, Aiptasia, Majano.......

Lately you're right dips do nothing for eggs. I dare people to search between every zoanthid polyp for spirals of Zonathids eating nudibranch eggs, it's not going to happen.

I would feel the same, but I added an extra layer of "OMG FREAK OUT" when I had just traded a couple monti frags (non-plating) just within the previous 48 hours. So I have to get a hold of him first and tell him about 15 different ways how sorry I am, but I had to tell him what I found.

He said he inspected them over and dipped. He said he was going back for a round two and I was happy to hear that. I have still been talking to him and I can rest a little better hoping they didn't make it in some small crevice... I'm still a little bit nervous.

I hadn't moved much of anything coral-wise, I didn't think I needed a public post at first. Then I talk to the LFS, a buddy or two and I started hearing reports of more and more people having problems. So, I said, screw it and posted it... I would rather it be public knowledge than just a rumor thru a text message.

I have met a lot of nice locals, but you know CL, your way has it's advantages...

As with everything that happens, if you don't learn or have fun, you're not paying attention or doing it right!

It's frustrating and I feel bad for anyone dealing with this stuff.

But, I was reading and reading on what to do and I realized something. I realized that most of the "pro" reefers all had articles on when they had this or that... And I was reading all of it.
I'm not a pro, not even close. But if I can remind of few awesome people to be a little more careful with their frags, then I am happy with that!

The important thing is you found an issue and immediately let people know. We do not have mantis eyes(unfortunately..but we would look funny) so you can only do your best. If my daughter had not taken the macro shots of my acro I would not have seen the redbugs, (had just made a deal to swap some corals earlier that day and let the guy know what I found). Here we are 3 weeks later clean of Redbugs and he is coming today to do the swap.

Lets just say coralrx is out and bayer will be used on future purchases and swaps at least that would help with the redbugs.
Hopefully someone will come up with something for the nudi-eggs
