I'm kind of a neat freak so over the last week i noticed a purplish algae growing not sure if it is a left over from the Ich treatment...

    Thanks again

    Red Cyno bacteria, ezz1r

its a bacteria and feeds of the same nutrients as algae does - Phosphate and Nitrate

it prospers in areas of low flow, and in many cases that makes the sand bed the typical location for it - as people work to avoid a sand bed blowing about thus flow is often reduced in that area of the tank

if you can increase flow without creating a sand storm- that will help
next water change syphon what you can away , couple that with increased flow in the area and you should beat it away

    what corals do you have?

Seachems Phosgaurd - which is an aluminum based phosphate remover is pretty good in helping to clear up this problem IME

but if you have leather type corals they can have an adverse reaction to the aluminun
in which case GFO may be a better alternative

Hey Steve i currently have in the tank Dusters,Purple shrooms, elephant ear shroom, lobophyllia, ricordea, trumpets, favia, pavona, zoas. I found this algae under this guy who i recently rearranged in the tank on the substrate. Should we maybe place him up on the L/R ?

    Appreciate the feedback

    Hi ezz1r
I used Phosguard and had shrooms , Zoanthids, LPS corals etc and they did not show any signs of issues
My team mate, Inwall75 informs me that leathers, toadstools, are the ones that can display negative effects from phosguard and I do not see any of them on your list

the shroom, place it on a piece of live rock rubble in a calm area of the tank and it will secure itself in time to that rubble, which you can then locate up on the rockwork
if you place it on the rockwork, it may stay there or it may roll away and end up behind your rockwork, depending on amount of flow in the area you place it ( they can take a couple of weeks to secure themselves firmly)

Thanks Gentlemen for the input as a matter of fact she is attached to a piece of L/R we may just have to attach it somewhere on the L/R Face with CorAffix Gel. My problem was she can spread out over 7 to 8 " across which covers some of my other corals blocking the light which we want to avoid obviously. However we will be buying some phosguard as you suggested for future use.
