I'm new to saltwater aquariums. I'm having an dark algae problem. What is it? Should I be concerned? How do I get rid of it?

That's better, kind of. That's not algae. That's cyano bacteria. Not good too much bad stuff in the water. What is your livestock, how much do you feed, how often do you do water changes, what are your paramiters?

It's ugly, redslime algae, your water must be high in phosphates and nitrates, siphon it out, you will need to do a water change anyways and get a skimmer, but don't listen to me, i'm just a rookie :/

Something tells me that this is when you use tap water... what kind of water are you using for top off as well as starting the tank? RODI? or tap?
