Thanks for the ideas but I realized that the tank is actually 95 gallons so I'm going with a mag 9.5. Eheim sounds great and never fails anyone but I don't have the money.
The hobby is worth it's expense.

If you can go external get a reeflo blowhole. They are the most energy efficient on the market and I'm not exaggerating when I say they are silent.

The larger Mags also run pretty warm, so if you have any issues with temp control, it will add to your worries.

The Eheims have always gotten great reviews by everyone who uses them, and we have recently begun using the Sicce Syncra Silent series for our submersible applications. They're so quiet, you have to look at the returns to see if they're working. They're also very easy on the power consumption. You could go with a 3.0 or 4.0 for a 800 gph application.

We also have Mags and Quiet Ones running, but the Sicces kick their butts. Most of our larger builds use external pumps (Little Giant, Pan World, ReeFlo, and Iwaki).

I'm going to go with Maxi-Jet utiliy pumps as well. They are quieter, more energy efficient, and run much cooler than mag drives. I used them in my old tank to replace the POSs I had in there before, and am using them in my new tank. And they're cheaper than magdrive, and half the cost of eheims.

If you have the money, go with eheim, but they really are $$.

I like the rios for a submersible. They are cheap and i have had two for 2 years that I got used and he had them for 2 years and there still going strong. I take em out once a year and clean them and there good to go. One of my lfs's has two mags and you can deffinitly hear them and fell the warmth when you touch them. I cant hear or feel any heat off the rios and there about 900gph. just my 2 cents.

I have a Sicce and it runs great!! Very little heat & noise, but I think they are the same as Eheim.

What are the pros and cons of having a external pump and i'm not sure if anyone can answer this but for this tank i would like to go all solid pvc pipes instead of vinyl and and plastic flexible tubing for two reasons, it'll be easier to deal with when it comes with valves and i like something that just doesn't move around. Is it a good idea or should i stick with what i have on my 45 gallon.

+1 to the Rio's if your on a budget. My 1400+ is 7 years old and I only clean it every couple of years. It is still running great. Silent and no heat. I just bought a 1700+ for my new tank. It is also silent and no heat so far. I am expecting it will run forever just like the 1400.

If you can afford it, Tunze or ATB. Silent, energy efficient, and cool running.
