I am wondering as to what a good brand of salt is (mixes well, dissolves completely, leaves water crystal clear etc.) Anyone have a good brand/favorite?

I've used Instant Ocean almost exclusively for more than 20 years. I've read recently that it might be good to "mix it up" now and then just to get a good blend of the trace elements that different manufacturers use. There are arguments for and against this, but it's your decision. The pros are the seawater you make will contain all the components that the major manufacturers utilize in their blend, and with the assumption that they all know what they're doing, you get the best of all worlds. The cons include the fact that if you go from brand to brand, you'd have less control over your water quality. It would be harder to backtrack or figure out what the culprit might be if one day you found that your Calcium was only 200ppm, for example.

Its good to get a variety of answers to questions on these boards--you can make a more informed choice.

I use Reef Crystals. It dissolves nicely.

I think all of use that use these different salts ought to take samples of freshly mixed water and test the mix for Ca. Carbonates and Magnesium and post them .. And see what they mix out to for real and for true :) and see how much differences there is with say I/O and or Tropic Marion or reef crystals from user to user . Like if John in N.J gets the same reading from a mix of I/K as does sally in Ca.

We'd have to all agree to use the same test kits. Of course, all you'd probably prove is that half of us, myself included, probably don't do the tests right.

Seachem, just stopped using Reef crystals, they don't mix as well.
