I got some Fiji rock from a LFS and the guy swore up and down that this was coraline algae. When I got it home and under my lights I was unsure. I can scrape it off with my fingernail and it has the texture of wet clay when scraped. Let me know what you think.

If you can scrape it off with your fingernails, and it feels like wet clay, I'm sorry to tell you this.....but it's clay. You and/or your store got ripped off.

Does not look like coralline to me. Looks like clay. Me I would remove the rock.

Joe Louis is 148 years old! ;D

Looks like good ol' Carolina clay. I'd remove it as well, take it to the LFS and throw it at em.

doesn't look like coralline to me either... does it have ANY other life on it? b/c it looks like dry rock with something stuck on it... and it's very unlikely that it would have coralline if it had nothing else growing on it...

I took it back to him and he let me pick a bigger rock that I liked and while going through them he also just gave me a nice looking flat piece about 3# for free.. All for $10. I cannot complain and will definitely shop there again.
