I am just trying to find the cheapest way to get my 75g up and running. A cheap skimmer or a different route. i cant drop $250 on a skimmer and more on a sump and pump. Trying to find the best bang for the buck.

I have a 75G predrilled.. all the fittings i need etc.
How hard/what would I need to make a sump. I have an extra ten gallon tank but dont believe it is big enough

Honestly dude. I would just wait. Set money aside here and there. You do not want to skimp on your skimmer. More so, I would think on a larger tank (compared to your 37).

Skimmer and lights - those two things are critical important IMO.

    Good luck.

I wouldn't get it. It has that crack and if it leaks it says no returns.

I agree, just researching. I know nothing about filtration. This will be my first setup. My tank i have now was already setup for me.
I would like to have a sump with a fuge and a nice skimmer if i could do it at a reasonable price. So.. I may be way off here.. but say I got my hands on a tank. You have one chamber for the water to enter from the DT, this is where your skimmer is... that overflows to the fuge which just has rock and sand.. which overflows to a chamber with the return pump? Am i right?

My buddy uses a wet dry on his 110... just a box... he popped the lid on it yesterday and it was making some crazy bubbles. Which overflowed in to the blue bubble balls, then to the pump... it works well on his 110. These are fairly cheap. What is wrong with this type of filtration?

It doesn't pull the dissolved organics out of your water. Possibly resulting in high nitrates.

    Just commenting on this part.

rock can go anywhere and everywhere through the process. People do sometimes put some in their fuge, but the fuge is where you want nitrate removing macro algaes growing (chaeto for boring, but over at reefcleaners they have some real pretty macro algaes you could use).

One can find REALLY cheap used tanks and other great stuff on craigs list. Seriously it just takes some searching and good buying practices. Small tanks are a dime a dozen to make a fuge or sump or combo. This is pretty much a DIY hobby and the sky is the limit. A few pieces of plexi some free time any you have something that functions like something you can pay 500$ for ??? Thats a no brainer and frees up funds for larger costing items. The systems all are effective. I inherited a DIY wet dry system which I incorporated into a 20 long/breeder. Since a new in sump skimmer was added it wacked the whole water flow/level. So now I am upgrading sump once again and I think I am headed in the sump/fuge direction with a skimmer. I like that it is more natural in application and I can build one. Bottom line you need to sit down and think of what you want, what that want requires and just set out a game plan. I inherited a wacked out crashing tank under filtered and under lit, and have a tight budget so my upgrades were small. Now I am having to go back and make changes to accommodate, but it is all in good fun.!. I posted a tank sizing link to see how many different sizes are available as well as weights. I will never pay new when there is so much good used stuff out there cheaper.

For the hell of it here is a few shots of my sump....
