Hey everyone, I'm new to 3 reef and I was wondering if I could get some advice on a HOB protein skimmer for my saltwater tank? I'm currently looking at the following skimmers:

    -AquaC Remora Hang-On Protein Skimmer w/ Drain Fitting + Maxi-Jet 1200 Pump
    -Reef Octopus BH 100SS HOB
    -Reef Octopus BH 1000 HOB
    -Reef Octopus BH 100F HOB

I've read mixed reviews on all of these so I'm not sure what direction to lean towards :-/

    Current Specs:
    35 gal hex
    32 lbs live rock
emperor 280 wet/dry filter (replacing with skimmer)
    koralia 1 power head
    current usa 460nm/10,000K light

Those all are good.. if you are looking for bang for the buck i like the coralife 65. Its about $75 shipped on ebay and could probably find one used online. Not bad skimmers at all for the cost.

I was actually originally looking at that skimmer, but I'd be willing to spend more if I can get a higher quality longer lasting skimmer that I could eventually use on a larger tank.

I have a Coralife and love it, but I hear better things about AquaC.

If you go larger.. and better quality.. you will probably want to go with an in-sump skimmer anyway.

I just sold my coralife 125 model that i modded.. it kept up with my 125g tank pretty well.. and its pretty heavy stocked.. but now that stuff is growing out.. i had to upgrade as well

I've had my remora for about 4 months now. I like it, no problems so far. It did seem to be slowing down lately. i did have green hair algea bloom last month & i over feed i think ::). so yesterday i tore down the maxijet and soaked it over night in vinegar. man this morning it was back to new.;D

That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that before.

AquaC's are REALLY good skimmers and their customer service is second to none!
