on that tank i would say aqua c. they seem to be the lowest maintanence skimmer i've seen. i use a coralife myself and have no problems. it's in sump though where they should be. the coralife look hidious as a hob, but if you plan on upgrading to a sump it may be worth looking at bc it can be used either way. that being said if you want a strictly hob go with the aqua c. that 80 dollar offer sounded good to me.

    i have the octopus 100F.

It's noisy. Tends to over flow when you power it back on or if there's a power outage. It needs the cup manually removed when ever you power it on otherwise it fills up with wet skim in a matter of moments.

It does pull out nice skimmate and I like the chambers on it... and this is the only skimmer I have ever owned so I can't really compare... I wouldn't get this skimmer again.

Their customer support is helpful though.

The coralife 65 is one of the best skimmer I have ever owned and I have had an octupus bh100 and a seaclone 100 both were noisy and would only wet skim. This skimmer will produce dry nasty skim by only adjusting the bubble counter. As far as HOB skimmers go this is one of the best. The remora does the same thing but is twice the cost. You could also get a recirculating skimmer and plumb it in with your tank but a HOB is the easiest option. My skimmer is only $50 and is practilly brand new. I am only selling because I am downsizing and I dont need it.

i got an AquaC remora pro with the overflow for $15, everything works. It had a crack on the housing but a little weld-on 4 did the job. The only issue at this time is the micro bubbles. I should go away in a couple of days

So I finally got a skimmer, after much research I ended up getting a remora. I actually found a used remora pro with drain fitting and a mag 3 pump for only $60. I ended up getting a maxi-jet 1200 so that the pump didn't take up so much space in my tank (LFS said the MJ1200 should be fine for my size tank with this skimmer). After hooking it up I am worried about the O2 levels in my tank dropping as the skimmer doesn't create any ripple effect like my bio wheel filter did... I am thinking about adding another small power head and pointing it towards the surface but am not sure if this is the best route to take. Any suggestions?

I have the Remora Pro w/Mag 3 on my 50gal reef and it is noisy and was producing alot of micro bubbles for the first 2-3 weeks. Then I started playing with the adjustments.

    1. Take a papertowel (i have those that are like 1/2 sheets) I used 3 and folded them and placed it over the top of the air injector. Made a big diff. just remember to replace it once a week

    2. play with the air injector screw; I got it almost all the way in before it falls through and it did appear to reduce the bubbles

    3. Still had alot of micro bubbles, made the tank look like it was cloudy but not consistently. Called Jason at Aqua C (Great guy) he sent me a new ball valve for free. Placed it on the intake and placed it at 3/4 open. It now works great! Great skim and a minute amount of bubbles...just enough for good oxygen levels.

Clean the cup 4 times weekly, make sure to keep the internal skimmer parts clean, i get skim on the sides near the top of the bubble chamber.

I also keep my water level fairly high in the tank <1" from the top. Keeps the overflow quiet and with my 2 Korila 2's (One pointing to the surface from about 4" from the top on one side I get a nice ripple effect on the water surface that make the lighting dance of the reef.

I went through 2 other skimmers in 6 months and this is by far the best and I have been reefing for 18 years

    PierceEye,

Are you placing the paper towels of this area?

I may try giving aqua c a call too if these bubbles do not subside in a week or so...
