presently I have a 36" wide 20" deep tank. I've looked at TaoTronics, Ecotech, Panarama Exoctic & Eshines. So for a 11-16" fixture willing to spend $200-500.

there are alot of options. You could prob start with one of the chinese 120W dimmables. About $250, then add to it down the line as you add corals/SPS and need the extra light.

Member Anemone has a good deal on both bridgelux and Cree versions

    led

Im running two differen led units one is sea star 209 watt = to a 350 watt halide it has hi par rated lenses over the led chips and hits lights up the bottom of my tank like the sun and excellent shimmer its mixed royal blue and 14k white taking into account my tank is 5 foot deep,

My other unit is coral star one my mate recomended to me He has 2 over his sps tank but he also has the more expensive one as he aint as poor as me his has fully automatic sun rise sun set with one cable to plug,
they are 120= 250 halide powerfull 90 deg lense its spot on aswell mine have two plugs on each one so you can put on timers to bring on the blue then blue and white or just white what ever you want to do, I swopped too these because of the moaning wife and the electric bills I did have 2 150 watt halide units im well pleased with these

The only problem with buying these type of lights is warranty, I got mine from uk with uk warranty might not be the cheapest but at least its only a 24 hour delivery service they carry all spares and have a service repair warranty

+1, What is your goal and what are the dimensions of your tank. I don't suggest buying something you will have to upgrade later. The bridgelux lights are great in shallow tanks but in tanks 24" and deeper where I wanted mostly SPS, they wouldn't be my choice. So it's imperative to know more about you and your tank.

    What are the dimensions?
Do you want sps all the way to the sand bed and corner to corner of the tank, or just a few in key spots?
What SPS do you want? Acros / millies or Montis/birdsnests?
Do you plan to upgrade your tank soon?

I don't think they'd need extra light. I thought they were less $ than that. 2 of the non dimmables (love them), cost me about $215 shipped for both lights.

and if you expand as someone else said, you buy a 2nd one.

I currently have 2 of the non dimmables over my 125Reef- a 6 ft tank.
