Yes I have read all the countless threads about ro/di units. Looks like I need to change out about 10 gallons of water per month for my 75 gallon tank. Did my first one yesterday and quickly realized what a pain in the ass that is without proper equipment. So Looks like I need to pick up a 5 stage ro/di unit. Would it be a good idea to just buy like a plastic 55g barrell and just run a hose to the unit and pump the clean ro water into the bucket. I would then put a ball valve on it so I could then fill up a 10g bucket and mix my salt then pump it into the tank.

Thanks for the help Im a noob
Any links would be great for a decent unit too.

firstly , i think 10 gal a month water change is too little. 5 a week is closer to being more like it. as for the actual transference, i think its a case of whatever makes it easier for you. im also a comparative newb also, aso i could be wrong on the amount needed to be changed. but i think 5 a week for sure. weekly changes are important compared to 1 a month

My main concern is just having some clean RO water. Im not into going to the store and buying 5 gallons of distilled water each week, then adding them to a barrel getting rid of them and then mixing the salt and pumping the water in.

How do most get rid of the water in the tank, the first change I did I just used a big platic cup and filled up a bucket. I have a submersible pump but obvioulsy didn't want to suck any fish into it LOL. I own a sign shop and I have a 100watt cod laser and I can cut lexan/acylic up to 1" think. I was thinking about making a little house for it that I could put in the corner of my tank and it would not suck up and fish or sand in theory.

How so most of the RO systems work am I supposed to plum it into my main lines or can I just run the hose to it? How long will it take to make 55g of RO water and how much water does it take to make a gallon of clean water? Im in CA so I do have a concern with water bills. I was looking at the units that say they can do like 75 gallons a day I think.
