i woke up this am to turn on my tank lights and i spot my first hitchhiker scrambling to get back to its hole. I wish i could have gotten a picture of it but i can only describe it. Its about 4mm long and it looks almost exactly like a roly poly bug. if it comes out again i will snap a photo

A roly poly in some areas of the country is a pill-bug in other areas of the country.

However, no matter what area of the country you are from, that would be a harmless amphipod (and that name is country-wide). ;D

BTW, there are chitons that can look "somewhat" similar from the top view. However, they definitely don't "scramble".....they will move slowly to a hiding spot when the lights kick on. They are also harmless.

ok amphipod is not what I was thinking and then remembered isopod. But you are best to go with inwall75 on this one. Most likely it is an amphipod

I'm playing the odds. I've found more amphipods over the years than isopods. Doesn't really mean a whole lot to me either way. The percentage of Isopods that are not good is very small so I don't really care which ID is right.

I agree amphipods are the most likely. I can't say that I have ever seen an isopod myself except for in past threads here. However I probably did and just not realized it.

So basically you should be fine hazard1986
