What is e-peen? I haven't heard that before.

Nothing wrong with what you said. I've got nothing against .40. I prefer 45, ammo is a tad bit cheaper and easier to find round here. But I'm fine with a 9 too.

Having fired "at" anything isn't exactly witnessing stopping power in the middle of combat ... I'm sure you get the difference on that. I also agree a FMJ is pretty worthless. Any defensive weapon needs hollow tip. I realize these aren't "allowed" in combat. This also makes it apples and oranges in comparison.

I don't know the details on your story (like if you could even tell if you were making contact w/the 9 for example). So I won't argue too much on what you're saying... But I do agree shooting at anything with any caliber does not have stopping power. Shot placement is key. Caliber irrelevant on that.

These comparisons need to be on equal footing.

Note, when I say "you, your" etc, I mean in the sense of 'people'.

Either a .40 or a 9 to the knee (or any leg bone) will have excellent "stopping power".

Either to the arm is fairly useless. Unless you hit an artery. Which I might point out can be cleanly severed with either caliber. Even in the event you do sever it, it will not have any "stopping power" for several minutes for either caliber.

Head shots... well, a 22 can even win that fight...

So, it really comes down to center mass. You can completely remove a man's heart and he can still chase you down and stab you for up to 15 seconds! Knowing that, I really don't see how these caliber debates continue, but they do. After you've decimated the heart, the only other option you have is to keep making new holes (or wait). And that comes down to capacity - caliber irrelevant.

Of course, that's assuming you even hit the heart... with your limited capacity of a .40. Because you probably didn't.

Turns out most civilian CC shootings involve the tummy. Intestines, stomach, kidney. Anything (even a fist) can stop most men if hit in the kidney.

Not even a .40 is going to stop someone with a bleeding gut unless it's a kidney or spine hit (which even a 9 or 380 would suffice for).

What's left? You can puncture a lung - there is some evidence a 380 won't make a big enough hole to collapse a lung in all scenarios. There is no documented cases (I have found) that involves a 9 and a lung where the lung did not collapse.

So really... nothing wrong with sticking with a larger caliber... except that you better make every single shot count... life is not a video game - you get one chance to make your shots count. With a 9, you get a few more chances lol

Of course, there is one giant counter argument here. We're talking about 'stopping power'. For most documented cases, just the presence of a gun (even if it is a toy) is all the stopping power needed (licensed gun presence, statistically, usually diffuses, not escalates). So in that sense, all guns have "stopping power". Even a C02 pellet handgun... (though I would never depend on that)

Well Im a fan of my baseball bat as well.. but im sure she doesn't want to carry that around either.. lol j/k but really I would go with the pepper spray or the bear mace, that stuff sucks I never want to get sprayed. I think it does work. Even though as previously stated I do in fact have a gun because I feel that is more effective for me. But since she doesn't want anything to do with the guns I would go with the spray or the taser.

Pere I wont take up bandwidth and quote all of that, but what you said is exactly my point.

With my expereince I will actually draw a close parallel to shooting under fire is a high pressure combat/law enforcement active shooter situation to being very similiar to a civilian high stress defense from attack senario.

I say this cause you can train and shoot and train and shoot and it still wont turn out exactly like you think. This is why shot placement training is important cause I'll be honest you can aim center mass but likely wont hit it. Not is a shooter & target both moving senarion, just like a adrenalin fending off attacker firing senario.

This is why a better caliber with a better quality ammo is absolutely vital. I am only hit your arm or leg, and it probably wont kill you, but I need significant force combined with tissue damage and visible damage (once again all psychological). I need those to slow down my bad guy/attacker so I can then follow up with a second shot.

So with that said is the person defending themselves realistically and honestly trying to kill the bad guy to just trying to injury them or do something, anything to put distance (and safety) between themselves and the situation.

Bruce Willis, Robocop, and Arnold in Commando are about the only people that are one shot one skill, 100% of the time capable people I know.
