I've had a heck of a lot of unexplainable issues in my reef tank. I believe I've narrowed down my problem to the main return pump. I'm looking to get a new one. I'd like one with a threaded ouput, unlike a power head. My current pump is 700 GPH. With all my water movement I don't think it would be a problem if my new pump was a slight downgrade from my current one.

I'm ready for some reccomendations. So what's worked for you? I wouldn't mind a quiet pump. I would prefer a submersible model. I checked the classifieds, and don't see any. Anyone have an extra pump that they've used in a reef tank, and know it's reef safe (no copper, leaking lube, etc.) and would like to sell it?

I love Magdrives, great pumps and are threaded on both ports. So, your tank issue is/was b/c of your return pump? Luna

I have used Mags and Rios. I prefer Mags. I would get a Mag 9.5 and dial it down with a ball valve. Give yourself room in case you need it. Get it on eBay. I have seen some real good deals on new pumps there. I would not mess around with a used one. You never know how it was treated and/or what the wiring is like. Someone off of 3reef is fine as we are trustworthy, but I would stress getting a new one in any other case. If the threading is not there, just use glue and pvc and create your own threaded output.

I would recommend you the Ocean runner by Aqua medic they work really good and there is replaceable parts for them 500,700,900 to 1200gph I have the 900g and when the impeller broke due to some fuge rubble, they send me a spare one free of charge, they are submersible and threaded on inlet and outlet. and runs very cool also
