Good return pump?????

    i just bought a sheltz L40 which claims its a 740gph and im using it as a return in my sump on my 75gal tank and the overflow is only a 300gph max. should i be good and what would be a better pump for me to get down the road. thanks

    You might to add a ball valve to dial it back a little if your overflow can't keep up.

    I do believe that on that pump you can adjust the flow with a knob on the pump itself. You should be fine, its a good pump.

    Rule of Thumb. Overflow should run more then the pump....

    Yup. Ball valves--GOOOOOOD. Flooding--BAAAAAD.

    good thanks for the help but i was under the understanding that you want a higher gph pump than your overflow can so you dont flood or is it the other way around

    When I set up my tank for the first time, I had a Craig's list deal that was a plug and play deal. I just had to put it together. The overflow/return thing was new to me and sooooo confusing. I managed to figure out how to put it together and get it to work correctly, but it was a measurable amount of time after that when I fully understood how things worked.

    Confusing isn't it???!!!!:D
