Hello everyone I have been researching RO/DI units and just wanted a little feedback.

I have heard SpectaPure is the best overall brand, a little more than I want to spend but still in reach.

    SpectaPure-MarineDepot.com

But also I am looking at the Mighty Mite, which puts out less GPH but i really dont need the extra

    Might Mite
Aquarium Water | Reverse Osmosis | RODI Water | ReefKeeper Water | Mighty Mite 50GPD with DI Added

Do you think the mighty might is enough for my modest needs....Just a 40gallon breeder to top off and some water changes

Doesn't sound that bad. I have never used their product so I don't know what the quality is.

There is no comparison. With any compact unit you sacrifice things like water quality, filter life and cost of operation. You will not get the same 18.2 megaohm or true 0 TDS water out of the MightyMite as you will a full size unit. The filters are smaller, less efficient, cost more to replace, do not last as long, do not come in the reefers preferred 1 micron or less, are harder to find and cost more to replace. Plus you don't get a inline pressure gauge or TDS meter and the DI is not refillable, its a small throwaway so will need frequent replacements.

Add to that the Mighty Mite uses the same top bracket as the full size 3 stage units so the footprint is the same, no space savings other than a few inches shorter height.

You will not find a better deal than the unit at the top of this sales flyer.

Full size 10" replacement filters are easy to find and inexpensive to replace. It also has a 90 GPD treated and tested RO membrane which is a good thing, higher GPD means less waiting around for treated water and having the faucet tied up. A 25 or 50 GPD membrane means you have your faucet tied up for 12 to 24 hours to make much water.

All RO/DI units regardless of brand should have the sediment filter and carbon block changed every 6 months like clockwork. The membrane could easily last 7-10 years if you keep up with the regular replacements and disinfect the system at least annually and the DI resin will outlast any other brand on the market since they custom blend their own resins based on thousands of hours of testing. The exact DI life depends on your tap water condition, how well the RO membrane is functioning and how much water you make but it should be a long while.

    Its more money than this:
    MAXPURE MPDI SYSTEM

Comparing the two, the BRS comes with a nominal rated 5 micron prefilter, the other an absolute rated 0.5 micron so it protects the carbon block better, your a 5 micron carbon block that should last about 10,000 gallons, the other a 0.5 micron 20,000 gallon block.
Yours has a 75 GPD dry untreated and untested RO membrane, the other a 90 GPD treated and tested RO membrane. The DI is similar in both although Spectrapure blends their own in house so it lasts longer and works better.
Yours has a fixed non adjustable flow restrictor, theirs a capillary tube flow restrictor you adjust for your exact water conditions. Yours no inline pressure gauge, theirs has a gauge.

I think the Spectrapure is a better value and will cost you less to own and operate from day one.

Nothing at all wrong with the BRS system, its just not the value and we all seem to be concious of our money and how we spend it.

But one thing the bulk reef system is new the SpectraPure is refurbished, which is not the worst thing in the world but if I am going to spend 100+ I want it to be new.

I have the 90gpd Spectrapure unit and love it. I couldn't imagine buying anything else. AZ knows his stuff when it comes to this.

Even with a couple dents or scratches, it will have a lower cost of ownership than the BRS one. That's a huge deal down the road.
