What is a good RO/DI system? Been looking at mrsaltwater.com and the videos he has posted about RO/DI and what specifications a buyer should look at when evaluating a system. 1 micron sediment filter, is that overkill? I've been looking at the RO/DI's from Bulk reef supply and their filters are not near this. Any advice suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    I would get a spectrapure RO/DI unit.

IMO you don't need one, just keep up with replacing the pre-filter & carbon block, DI, etc & you'll be fine.

I would recommend getting a handheld TDS meter like the HM TDS-3 though: http://www.tdsmeter.com/products/tds3.html

BRS has good prices and great customer service. Also free shipping if your order is more than $175.00. I've been using a 75 gpd 4 stage RO/DI from BRS.

Spectrapure is the most respected name in the industry, they have been in business, in the same Arizona city for over 25 years. There is only one other RO vendor that I can think of that has been around that long. They are the ONLY RO vendor that treats and tests their membranes and guarantees the Select series to be better than 98% efficient in writing, you will not find that anywhere else. What this means is the long term cost of owning and operating a Spectrapure system is less than any other.
The CSPDI is an excellent reef quality RO/DI system and the MaxCap is unlike any other system on the market anywhere at any price. That link is just a sale ad, their main site is here:
    www.spectrapure.com
Dig in a little deepe rand read some of the information on their site like installation manuals, troubleshooting tips, FAQ, Educational and many other sections and you will see they are top notch.

Don't believe the low waste claims on the Aquatic Life systems, others have tried and given up on low waste ratios years and years ago, it does not work that way, membranes must be flushed, ask any long time RO vendor or even the membrane manufacturers themselves.

The TB systems aren't even close, just because the housings look similar means nothing, its what is inside that counts. Compare piece by piece, TB prefilter 1 micron nominal rated, Spectrapure 0.5 micron absolute rated, TB carbon block 1 micron probably 9,000 gallon life, Spectrapure 0.5 micron 20,000 gallon life, TB membrane 75 GPD dry untested off the shelf possibly 96-98% rejection but with no guarantee other than +/- 15% actual, Spectrapure membrane 90 GPD specially treated and either batch or individually hand tested and better than 98% rejection, TB resin unknown manufacturer nuclear grade, Spectrapure custom blended on site based on tens of thousands of hours of beta field and lab testing reef specific resin. The list goes on and on, suffice to say they are in no way similar or the same.

Same with BRS, but withe even more coarse 5 micron prefilter, 5 micron only 6,000 gallon carbon block, 75 GPD untested or treated RO membrane and again off the shelf premixed non reef specific resin.

With RO/DI you really do get what you pay for so do you research carefully and buy not only on price but on long term cost of ownership and reputation.
