I am looking to get a new rodi unit and this one looks like a great unit. The price is on the high sign but it comes with everything I need especially the power unit. But wanted your opinions on it.

Spectrapure all the way. They are one of our sponsors. Always having deals and I think u can buy some of their refurbed ones for 120. Spectrapure makes the best filters. Search Spectrapure on our forum. You'll get a thousand hits and all good reviews plus you'll see how others have proven their units are of amazing quality and care.

Sweet little unit. I like the ease of changing the filters. Price is a little high for a 4 stage but you pay for the convenience I suppose. Here is one to compare to; RO/DI Systems I have the one for $135.00 (5 stage) but with a few add-ons it is around $180s.

The key here is it needs to have a booster pump already on it, my parents dont like the booster pump add ons the last one was defective and broke my first unit

Booster pumps can be added on. Vertex makes a decent pump for like a 100 bucks. What why do you need a booster pump. Is your water supply coming from a well? I thought I needed one but once I removed the standard flow restrictor my pressure increased and I didnt need one.

Yeah, in absolute agreement with nc. Can't give Spectrapure enough credit on thier products & service.

I've had other 6-stage RO/DI's but it was almost a joke (on me of course). Since water is so crucial, and AZ was a big fan of Spectrapure, I forked out the cash and bought a MaxPure 90 unit. It is actually one of the few reef 'investments' I've made. I've had it over a year. I have a 90g DT 60g Frag & a 55g Frag and have not changed filters yet......probably close by now. Plus, Spectrapure has monthly specials on their proprietary products every couple months. Only regret is, that I didn't get a bigger unit. But, they also have upgrade kits for every model.

In the long run, you'll be paying less for great quality water & service.

    Good Luck.

The one you were looking at is pretty low quality and receives lots of well deserved complaints. First off ALL RO membranes must be flushed in order for them to function any length of time. They missed the boat completely with their supposed 1.5:1 waste ratio, any long time RO vendor or manufacturer will tell you thats just not possible. 4:1 is the standard waste ratio for all membranes regardless of whose it is.

Spectrapure, as recommended by several already has researched, engineered, long term tested and now sells a proven low waste system that can actually run at less than 1:1 waste ratio under most conditions, it called the MaxCap UHE. I own one myself and have had it for over 3 years now so can speak with some authority on the subject.

What Spectrapure does differently than anyone else is use a microprocessor, booster pump and solenoid valves to flush the system with stored DI water on a cycle during operation then it double flushes with DI on shutdown and pickles or stores the membrane in DI water when it is not in operation. Very unique, no other vendor has done this and its not cheap but it works flawlessly and my TDS and rejection rate today is as good as it was 3 years ago.

EVERY other vendor who has attempted a system like this uses plain tap water with all its TDS and crud to flush the membrane which does not work. I have seen several come and go due to customer dissatisfaction and complaints, it doesn't work.

Now, why do you need a booster pump? Is it due to low water pressure say from a domestic well system or are you looking for water savings or both? They are two different issues but can go along with each other too. If its just low pressure adding an Aquatec 8800 booster pump is what you need and they can be had for around $150 complete with a pressure switch and 24v DC power supply and added to any RO or RO/DI system easily and safely in about 10 minutes with no leaks or problems.
If its water savings you are looking for that involves the UHE and while its not an inexpensive purchase, if you make much water it will pay for itself in DI and membrane replacement savings and water and sewer bill savings if you are on a regular water system and pay rates. Mine paid for itself at about the two year mark and keeps saving me money every day.

Spectrapure, Buckeye Field Supply and many of the others will preplumb a booster pump for you as their systems are built one at a time to order, they are not imported units already assembled. Look at Spectrapures current sales flyer here:Untitled Document
