I'm thinking of getting new lights for my tank because my power compacts are getting old. I'm thinking about going with LEDs and for a decent price. Anyone know of any good lights for under $215?

What kind of lighting did you want first of all? Halide, LED, T5?

Viper HQI 250w is like 200 used or something?

That would be the best thing for your budget IMO

I'm thinking led because they are strong and don't need a fan or chiller

Well LEDs will most likely put you over your budget. You can get a fabricated fixture, but they generally run $400+. You could DIY your own LEDs, no idea how much that will cost. Biocube just did a thread on his DIY LEDs for his cube though and I believe he built them into his hood, should check that out.

You might be able to get away with just two Par30 LEDs from BoostLED. I don't know the dimensions of the 28 cube, but according to Boost, one of their lamps covers a 12'' by 12'' area. They sell their PAR30 lamps with hanging clamp for $105.

I run T5s, so I don't have the slightest idea on the inner workings of LEDS, but hopefully I gave you some ideas. I would search around for cube owners who run LEDs and see what they have.

I was also thinking about the 2 boost par30. But the problem with that is is there is no moonlights. How would I be able to add that?

You an pick up a nice led moon kit from rapid led for 14.99. From what I'm gathering most people don't use moon kits.

Moon lights are for our viewing pleasure only. They don't do anything for the livestock. I have my lights programmed to come on at 2:30 and go off at 10, just before i go to bed so no need for moonlights ;).
