Does 3reef.com have any rule about who we are allowed to link people to, when offering advice?

I only ask because I've been registered here for a while but haven't been particularly active because of the number of friends I have on another site similar to 3reef.

However, I'm just wanting to know if 3reef will auto-censor my posts if I give a link to a place like www.ledgroupbuy.com or to Bulk Aquarium Supplies - Reef Aquarium Supplies | BulkReefSupply.com or wherever. I'm not affiliated with either one of them but when I tell people where I got my LEDs or T5 tubes from, I don't want my posts censored to some distasteful "clay boa" site (literally that's where they auto-censor the posts). Thus I'm just not going to be active there much since they've cut the legs out from under me when it comes to offering advice.

Second.... just curiosity... when I open a tab for 3reef.com in my Chrome browser, the tab says "Tropical Fish Forum/Goldfish/......."

Goldfish? Nothing against goldfish lol but we don't have a goldfish forum here. Lol anyone know why it says that?

-- And my apologies to the Moderators if this is the wrong forum to ask these--- I could not be sure where the best place to ask was.

I also did look for the user-agreement statement since it would answer my question about the posting-links, but couldn't find it. I did look. Thanks for your patience!

Well I think your first post answers your first question! Secondly welcome to 3reef, i'm guessing you're reefing to another site thats about a middle reef or something?;)

Relax, it's way more laid back and relaxed here!

    Laid back is good.

I did post those links just to see what happened, but then again I didn't know if I randomly picked two "allowed" sites or what. I do point people to both sites frequently.

    Thanks!

Laid back is good. I refuse to participate anymore on any forum that auto-censors me when I link someone to a site I recommend, in a good spirit (ie I'm not Rick-rolling them or linking them to porn or something, lol I quit that crap when I was a teenager about a decade and a half ago).

As far as I can tell on here! peeps are pretty loyal to the site sponsors, but as far as I can tell, they all are great companies! love rapidled and boostled and BRS, BFS etc!

It seems like as long as your not actively selling an off site sponsor, like all the time, you're good to go!

Relax sit back and welcome once again!

A moderator is the only one that can answer you question definitively but I don't think there is a problem linking to any site as long as it is done for good reason to benefit others and is not bashing or shilling them.

Triton your avatar mocks me! My brain isn't sure if i should laugh my tail off or be scared!lol

I think you're right though! i have a thread now that does bash a certain vendor pretty good, but for very good reasons, and its stayed up! Granted many people have agreed and posted corroborating evidence in my support! But just use common sense and remember this is a family forum, so cussing, dirty talk is frowned upon! i learned that lesson!;)

absolutely no issues what so ever linking to products
in either a build thread of your own, or in responce to someone who may want some advice on something they are working on.

I do it myself when offering advice, if people are looking to buy a certain thing, and I google it and find someone selling said item (yes if Google throws up a 3 reef sponsor in my search, then naturally, I will include that link in my reply)

3 reef , does take a dim view of non sponsors having a perma link in their signatures , as they are most likely affiliated to the site / business they are linking to and that is classified as spamming .

3 reef does monitor for repeated posts relating to any particular product or business
as there are commercial ventures who have employees on forum sites like this, and who are keen to promote their companies products

just to clarify in your post above, there is nothing wrong with the links you have included

    Steve

    Thanks Steve!

I do link folks frequently to Bulk Reef Supply and LED Group Buy just because both sites carry the things I know about, but I'm not affiliated with either.

I did a DIY LED demo and table-talk at a local ReefSmart event, and LEDgroupbuy and Nano-Box-Reef gave me one of their LED drivers to add to the ReefSmart raffle and to use in the Demo. That's the closest thing to "affiliated" you could say.

But I do appreciate your comments and look forward into settling in, thanks!

    Matt
