I have a slow drip from my D.I.Y overflow box. The silicone I have says it needs 48hrs to cure before adding water. Does anyone know a faster solution? JBWeld? or anything else?

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry to "kick you when you're down" but this is precisely why I would not try to save a few dollars on a DIY overflow.

For the cost, it would definately be worth it just to buy and Eshopps overflow box.

Silicone will not adhere to acrylic very well. It may help to slow the leak but depending on where it is coming from it may be fixable using silicone or some kind of drinking water safe 2-part epoxy.

A picture of where it is leaking from might help . . .

Did you try siliconing acrylic to acrylic?

All I know is dont use JBWeld. I dont know if it will work but try using a two-part putty that setups under water like the one you attach frags to rocks or even the glue depending on how big the crack is. But i know it is reef safe if you get it at you LFS

    good luck

Need a lil more info. But there is nothing wrong with a DIY overflow as long as its constructed properly. The common mistake is people thinking that silicone bonds to acrylic, which it does NOT.

IMO that's the same justification you can make for a DIY appendectomy - it's fine if its done properly . . . .

Thing is - these are very tough to do properly - and not for first time users of acrylic.

Other thing is that they are not horribly cheap - by the time you calculate your materials/tools/and personal time - you are going to spend more to DIY. Especially when you either do it twice - or end up buying a reliable premade solution.

There is certainly a whole ton of merit and pride to be gained from a DIY project. But there are many good reasons why the majority of HOB overflows are NOT DIY. Not saying they do not/will not work - but for the vast majority they are not the easiest, most reliable method available.

So I am guessing a DIY appendectomy might not be a good idea ;) hahhaha

Not without the careful guidance of some trusted friends: Johnny Walker, Jack Daniels and Jim Beam. Once you have consulted ALL THREE WISE MEN you are ready to perform that DIY surgery!!!

Lol, well IMHO opinion, I don't believe that "reliable" and "hob overflow box" can be used together in the same sentence. I know a lot of people use them with success, but not this guy.
