It is about 4 inches long and seems to be having problems attaching it self. Looks like the shell has been cracked at the foot area and there seems to be a rip in the mouth.

The shell does looked cracked or broken, if that's the case I don't think there is much you can do. I'm not sure if they can heal themselves. I don't see a tear, the long opening is supposed to be there.

Doesn't look good - that is a very large crack. Best thing is to keep an eye on it and not to move it. I hope it recovers...

I dont see a crack or a tear. It doesnt look good though. It looks like it has a pinched mantle and is dying/receeding
Troubles with Tridacnids: a Look at Two Common Problems by James W. Fatherree, M.Sc. - Reefkeeping.com

the tear you are seeing is actually the mouth/ intake valve....that is ok. Where I am concerned is the bottom part of the shell that is seperating. Clams are made of 2 shells (bivalve) attached together by ligaments and other tissue. What you are seeing is the loss of tissue and receeding of the mantle and ligaments. As it dies the shell will basically seperate from each other

How long have you had the clam? What type of lighting do you have? If you just got it take it back...I hate to say it will only be around a day or two I am afraid. What type of fish do you ahve...did something eat it maybe? But something is killing it, either an infection or a fish eating it, or lack of light????

    sorry

it is directly under a 20k 250w double ended XM.
Ive had it for about 2 weeks and it tried to move bit just end up flipping on its side. Today I noticed the foot was extended and not touching the rock. I adjusted it so the foot was close to the rock and it seems to have layed its foot down and is now attached. The crack was there when I got it, and it has looked like that for 2 weeks now.

I dose phyto ever 2 days and it always gets a little cloud of phyto in its direction. It seems to take some in when I dose. It opens and closes when reacting to fish swimming by.
