hello, i picked up a few crabs n hermits yesturday at the LFS, the guy talked me into buying a choclate chip starfish too, they were cheep, $4, so i said wat the heck, y not. i put them in the tank and everything is great so far. today i looked at the tank and i saw the starfish ontop of one of my new snails, i quickly put my hand in the tank and seperated them. i looked on this website jus now n c that CCstars are not invertabrate safe, was he tryin to eat the snail? should i get rid of it? if i have to get rid of it, can i put it in the wet/dry, but im afraid it my get sucked into the mags n stuff, should i jus try to give it back?

yes he would have eaten the snail and other snails when hungry again
they will also try and eat other things in a reef tank

sump may be to small and out of sight is out of mind
they require feeding with strips of fish or half moluscs etc every couple of weeks or more depending on meal size really

if its in the sump, aside from the risk with the pumps like you mention, its not going to be very visible to you and thus not much point in having it really

I doubt he could have gotten through the snails shell, but anything's possible I guess. hope you dont have any corals your too attached to as the inverts you read about are most likely sessile (corals / anemones).

    IMO
he would flip the snail over and send his/ her stomach in through the opening
they can pry apart molluscs in the wild , very strong for their size.

but yes - painfull lesson learned , I had one in my 70 when it was FOWLR and CC
Started adding corals , forgot the CC was not compatible and realised a couple of weeks later when the bald spot arrived on my GSP colony

No, thats not what I was saying . . . not really sure how you came to that conclusion TBH. You said you read CC starfishes are not compatible with inverts. I said those "inverts" they were referring to were probably sessile inverts.

I work at petco and we have a CC in one of our tanks. One of my employees was cleaning the tank and put him in one of our other tanks. The tank he was placed in had a few nice mushroom rocks. Well the CC shortly found his way to one of the rocks and eat like 3 mushrooms. I saw him takeing one down and took him out and put him in the tank he belonged. I then gave a firm talking to my employee and luckily it hasnt happend again and my mushrooms grew back.
