I'm wondering if I should tank out one of my filters. It's a 30-60 gallon aqua tech i believe(from wal-mart)? I have a Marineland filter for a 55gallon,, one 250gph powerhead, protein skimmer for a 75gallon(dont remember the name at the moment, 2 heaters, foxface, coral beauty, koran angel, some hermit crabs(7), turbo snails(2), and about 5 of those underground snails, star fish, and a cleaner shrimp. Do you think my tank will get dirty if I take it out or will my other filter and protein skimmer do the job? thanks for any help!

Typically skimmers are WAY overrated in their stated volume rating.

How big is your tank? You only stated how size ratings of your filters.

I only run a skimmer on my tank with no other filter other than the live rock and my tank is just fine.

I would use the filters for chemical filtration only if you have enough live rock. The rock will perform the nitrogen reduction process.

Do u know how many pounds of live rock u have? It's reccomended to have from 1 to 2 pounds of rock per gallon of water. I have close to 110 pounds of rock in my 55 with a total water volume of 65 gallons counting sump and filters. Then I have another 6 pounds of rock in the sump along with other filters that I use when things get cloudy after water changes and vacuuming the sand bed.
