Cause  what youve done so far seems like a pita :-/ I hope this is only a feeling out stage as i am worried ill also have to be constantly fiddling dose one day w/ kalk not the next, then back to a two part
I hope once we get our tanks dialed in it will be alot easier to maintain[/quote]

Mainly testing and retesting to to see what kalk will do to my system and maintaining a pH level of 8.2 to 8.4.
We will always be testing and adding because of the coral and coralline algae needs calcium and a pH balance and alk. This will be a never ending thing unless you have a reactor for both.
By the way what the hell is a PITA.
Before I started kalk my levels where fine but one always has to tinker with the balance.
Whats wrong with doing kalk and using a 2 parter?

It will always be close or on the money for a day but you have things in your tank that consume these things so yes you have to watch and test and one day you may find the perfect way to add everything but until that day comes test then add whats needed. we will then have the schedule and no worries right?

I use (oh no Dave is gonna SHOUT!) the Sea Chem products and dose Kalk. I was dripping Kalk and stopped but noticed the coraline wasn't growing as fast so I went back to dripping and its running wild again. My levels for calcium and alk have been the same where I notice a big difference is I drip the Kalk at night so the ph doesn't flucuate with lights out on the main tank. Don't drip into the refugium because you want the kalk more availible to the tank and not ther refgium ( I know it gets some but it should be a partial not the full thing)
Hottie I know your refugium hangs on the back but forget what othet filters you have please remind me and maybe we can figure it out.

no my refuge is above the tank and doesn't hang on back. I also have a power filter and a fluval canister filter.
