I just got my 75 gallon drilled reef tank. I am taking things very slow to try and minimize mistakes. have a few questions on equipment.

    1. how many power heads do I need and what flow rate?

    2. size/flow rate of return pump in 20 gallon sump.

    3. Ideas on a good skimmer in the $150+- range?

    4. Light ideas that won;t break the bank. looking at t5's

will the industry bring out a more creditable/affordable LED in the next few months? or will that be more like a year?

    5. pros and cons of having glass tops on the tank?

    6. i live in a condo. what wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a good battery power supply if the power goes out that’s affordable.

thanks for all of your help!

Congrats on the new tank Jmblec2

see below for my opinions on each subject

    Hope that helps some
decide what you want to keep 1st or have some ideas
then we can fine tune the replies to be more specific according to the species you are interested in keeping

I agree with Steve's suggestions. You will need to keep your LPS and softies in the shade under the 6 bulb T5 and your montis near the bottom. You will still need to be cautious in your placement with the 4 bulb fixture IME.

I do not know if you will find a good skimmer at that price. Look at Eshopps PSK-75, might be in your price range.

Can't help on the back up. Suggest looking at UPS backups for starters.

make sure you reasearch the back up a lot. i know close to nothing about them, but i am pretty sure that a lot of the ones marketed for computers and stuff wont work to well with aquarium equipment. something about a sine wave soemthingorother.

Ha, man i am no help to anyone.

as far as the powerheads go. get as much flow as possible :). maybe 2 koralia 4s??
