Went to the LFS today and asked what the price was for a very small button polyp (about 6 or 7 of them on one small rock fragment.. must have fallen off a bigger one... got it for free!

it's a green one, I have it situated center tank about 2/3 deep where the most water flow hits. I situated the powerhead so that it doesn't spray directly on to it. we'll see how it does.

what do you feed these things?

I think it depends on the specimen. Some of them are almost purely photosynthetic (so they require proper light) others may require additional feeding. I've got a small colony of purple button polyps [IMG]. I feed them 3 times a week with fresh brine shrimp. I just turn off all pumps/filters and spray food over them with a small pipette.

    Cheers!

Once they get use to your tank, they will explode and strt growing fast with proper water quality.

I had got a frag from a buddy of mine and they came unglued except for one, I reglued the others in a different spot, and now after almost 3 months, that 1 is now roughly 30.

With using MH's you might want to start all your corals out on the bottom of the tank to keep from burning them with the light. You can cause some corals to bleach from too much light at one time.
I bring all my corals in low in the tank unless I know the exact wattage lights they came from. Then after a couple weeks you can start moving them up in the water column a bit.
    Great score...post some pics...;D

    The GREAT ADVENTURE begins. [IMG]

I never feed mine directly...might do better if I did. But seem to thrive on own from stuff floating around in water.

    GOOD LUCK!

You are so right, Omard...The adventure does begin...We have a large colony of Green Button Polyps and we direct feed them about once a week. Just drop a piece of mysis shrimp into each polyp and watch them close up and devour the shrimp....8)

there are 9 polyps on this small piece of broken (dead) hard coral. They are green and a decent length. their bodies are about see through in the light and appear soft.
a couple of them came out of hiding last night periodically to bask in the moonlights I have.
the plan for today is to have just one T5 on and all other lights off so as to give this guy some acclimation time.

    sound like a good plan?

do I need to watch out for any of the cleaning crew attacking these guys? I have a lot of hitch-hikers that came with the live rock... crabs and such... and I found a single one of the bad anemones staring to grow (apista I believe)
