I got a RBTA around Thanksgiving. I was so happy to finally get one. It attached to a rock and really had not moved since then. I read the horror stories and knew the risk of it moving and stinging corals and agreed that I had been lucky with mine. I was careful placing my surrounding corals around the general area that it was.

A couple days ago it moved just slightly. I tested the water and everything was fine. Today I got up and even though it had not moved anymore it was opened up real wide and had attached itself to another rock...stinging a monti frag that I had.

So I decided to take it in to the store. I actually got a nice price for it and placed it on my credit for the new nano skimmer that they have ordered for me!

My poor clowns though . They are so lost now that he is gone. I wanted a clown to host my anemone for a while, finally got them both to and got rid of it. But my corals will thank me for it!

aww :( thats too bad, we're on the hunt for one we have a sebae and i think if we ever got rid of bob the twins (the clowns, we call them the twins) would be lost without him.

Well if your corals are going to be happier all the better.

Your clowns will be fine and overall I think that's the right choice for a reef. Maybe I'm just too paranoid too but I wouldn't want to have to worry about something running around the tank stinging everything until it gets stuck in a powerhead and nukes the tank. I've heard too many of those horror stories as well.

Eventually I may get a nano-cube/Solana type all-in-one and just keep an anemone and 2 clowns in it (and maybe a couple zoa colonies or something easy) because I think it's fascinating watching the behavior, but just too risky for my reef.

    ;D

If I had a nickel for every tank an anemone nuked or for how many corals they killed I would be a rich man.

I'm personally of the belief that there should be a requirement that someone successfully keeps a marine tank for at least 3 years before they are even allowed to think about an anemone. Anemones in the ocean theoretically can live forever. Then us hobbyists buy them and kill them in 6 months.

My GBTA died in my move. It was cool to watch my clown protect and feed it and host. However, I never really saw his personality until he lived in my tank without it. He's a funny little fish with a personality I never would have seen if I had kept the anemone.

Your clowns will be fine :) Sorry to hear about the monti getting stung - it will heal

Sorry, you are disappointed, but I am glad as well. After even firsthand experience, I am part of the group that believes anemone's have no place in a community reef tank.

Maybe get some long stemmed paly's for the clowns. Mine love hosting them. Even bring them food and everything, just like an anemone ;)

I saw a carpet anemone the other day it was as big as a large skillet, it had 3 clarki's wearing it out....
The rose is a very attractive Anemone. I am like you in that respect though I like the other coral's better....

might want to try some hairy/frilly mushrooms. My maroon loved them and he was pretty rough, but they took it.
