Just noticed a little bubble algae growing on my Maxima.

Can I take it out to get that stuff off or can it not touch air long enough to scrub it off?

    Thanks.

the only bubble algae that will sporulate are the real large ones. On the smaller ones, the gametes aren't sexually mature yet. Larger ones can be removed carefully by spinning the bubble until the holdfast breaks.

FWIW, I have had two emerald crabs since I started my tank and have not seen bubble algae once... you may want to try getting one.

I would not take the clam out of the water if you don't have to, though.

I have two emerald crabs and never see bubble algae. They were added to the tank after I had noticed a small amount on my rock.

If you make sure the clam is closed up, manually remove the algae, rinse the clam off, the burp it, you should be just find.
