Eh, you could buy some "Pony Bottles" like Spare Air, and they last about 5-7 minutes depending on the size. But, I'm not sure how those times were calculated, because at the surface, you can breath through a full standard sized SCUBA tank for potentially hours, and yet when you're down 90 or so feet in water, you have about 30 minutes give or take a bit. So depending on how the company rates the spare air bottles and how you breath, since you'll be essentially at the surface you could breath through them for quite awhile longer.

Or, what about just breathing through a long piece of tubing coming out of the tank? Basically a 5 foot long snorkel? :D

And, not to sound sadistic, but I actually might like the altered aquascape better. :) What happened to the corals and clam that were caught skiing under the avalanche?

Well thanks for the kind words on the aquascape. "When life hands you lemons..." and all. I think that the corals and clam may actually survive the trauma. As long as I was swimming, I put a flat piece of rock under the clam (as per Amcarig's suggestion :)) but the stupid thing had rolled off by the following morning.

well... my friends and I have breathed through a garden hose using an electric bike fumy to fumy air down to us... so I figured I'd toss that idea into the mix :) I know you cant use a "long snorkel" for maybe a 10 foot pool, but you'd just be hanging into the tank maybe 2 or 3 feet, so I figured it's be interesting to try some tubing that allows you to do that, and only that. Maybe 1.5" tubing to help with breathing, and you can just exhale into the water. I guess I should have elaborated more :)

Heck, just buy a rebreather and you won't have to worry about air or anything like that  Except for replacing expensive membranes every few months

Good 'Ol Brownie. They were a FL company. Their product (used to just sell one thing) was called "Brownie's 3rd Lung." They were the product to which all other underwater breathing apparatus was compared. From the link, I see that their setup is still housed in an inner tube.

This exemplifies GTS's point. To have any ability to breath underwater the air must be pumped down, or it would seem like you were sucking through a cocktail straw. I remember a James Bond movie when I was a kid, that had Sean Connery breathing a scant 6" under water to escape detection--using a reed from the swamp. I tried it and experienced at a young age that there's a force working against you while you are under water. Kinda has to be experienced to appreciate, unless you're a physics buff.

I'm sure =Jwin= knew this, as he's a pretty sharp kid. However, I gotta say that buying a CO2 scrubber for your breathing needs while maintaining your reef tank has gotta be tantamount to buying a Rolls Royce to drive to your mailbox. :)

I also saw that movie and tried that as a kid... i tried it during a game of hide and seek as i lived on the lake.......

I was really disappointed that it didnt work. And i had to finish the game soaking wet.... my pride hurt more than anything though. I cursed Sean Connery... The day is mine you rouge!

i guess its different for such a small tank as mine, but i am always afraid of getting my armpit inside the tank cause god knows the chemicals needed in deodorant to make a man smell good all day, but im sure it would take much more than an armpit of deodorant to affect 700gs of water haha. just thought about that when i saw half your body inside of the tank.

Just be preparred to take 2 showers when diving into your tank and you should be fine. Obviously, don't put on any deoderant or maybe not shave until after the second shower. I think that 700 gals is a fair amount of water but I would still go the safer route and do 2 showers.;)
