    Thanks very much.

My LFS owner is a big fan of deep water acros and I think that he's started to infect me a little bit. I picked this up on Friday. I wanted to lay it on its side to get a little bit different growth form out of it but it kept rolling off of the narrow perch where I was trying to set it. Finally, I acknowledged that "the enemy of good is better" and just let it stand up like this.

Good looking stuff, Dr.! Your tank is looking impressive. I'm assuming that everything you've previously placed is thriving?

    Almost...

since the begining I have lost:

one cleaner shrimp (out of four, maybe he's just good at hiding).

I really liked this Aussie pink open brain.

One day I checked the tank and about half the coral was just gone down to the skeleton. By the next day, the entire coral was just gone. I have no idea what happened to this one. But all the other open brains are looking just fine.

I had a long tentacle anemone hit a powerhead but it looks like he is rehabing nicely.

My big pavona was loosing polyps at an alarming rate. I hope that maybe he was just getting too much laminar flow and I moved him out of the current a bit. I'll see if this helps him bounce back over the next few days.

I put two green slimers in but the next day had a big temperature swing and had to turn off half my lights for a week or two. The slimers didn't appreciate this. Temprerature is under control now and all lights are on for 10 hours a day. One of the slimers looks great but the other hasn't bounced back. My project list includes fragging off the two tips that still look good and I'm told that they should turn around pretty quickly. It will be a big decrease in size for this guy but at least he should be a fast grower with the right conditions.

I am definately at a different point on the learning curve for coral husdandry than I am for technical tank design (for even fish keeping) but I'm learning a ton and having a great time. Does anyone else come home and just stare at their tanks?

GTS - you learn far more from the things that go wrong than you do from the things that go right IME

I can relate to your experiences above, sometimes things that went wrong can be attributed to something tangible

but other times - ?????? why did that happen is a question many of us are familiar with

Amen, Steve. I'm never happy to see any of the animals in my tank struggle but if everything were smooth sailing I wouldn't learn anything.

New Coral -- a huge bubble coral with a nice green tint to it. To the right you can see a ricordia that's been in the tank for about 2 weeks. He hasn't really opened up fully so I'm thinking that I may be to try him in a different spot in the tank.
