total cost not including fish and coral, how much do you think that you have spent so far on your amazing tank? When you are done you can charge admittance to your aquarium! Get some of your money back! What kind of doctor are you?

Sorry to hear about the leak in your 40g...I'm researching to build my first tank and am hoping to avoid the same thing if I pick up a used tank.
    I've definitely enjoyed the thread, it's inspiring!!;D

Thankfully it's pretty easy to bypass the tank. I can turn a valve on the manifold coming off the main pump and take the 30 and the 40 out of circulation. If I choose to move the blue spot toby and the clown fish into the 30, then I will have to reroute the drains from the 30 directly into the drains from the 40 (instead of flowing through the 40 as they do now).

Thanks for the kind words. If I had it to do over again, I'd spend the extra $20 and get a new tank instead of used. That being said, I got my first tank and my wife's first tank used and never had any problems with either of them.

Thanks and welcome to 3reef. We look forward to seeing your build thread.

I had an exciting night tonight with my reef hobby... this afternoon I called my lfs to get some custom work done on a 40 breeder so that I could replace my leaking tank. I had a faint hope that it might be ready tonight but it turns out that I'll have to wait until tomorrow (at least). While I was on the phone with them though, the owner told me that they were getting in an amazing shipment of fish today which coming from this guy says a lot. They even got in a dozen of a species of fish on my 'dream list' :). They haven't had any of these guys in for almost a year.

    So I picked up 9 new fish and a half-dozen inverts :-X.

While I was getting everthing in the tank, disaster struck. My canopy weighs about 100 lbs and is attatched to a cable that lifts the canopy about 3 feet straight off of the tank. As I was bending down to get the last fish, the cable snapped and the canopy came crashing down onto the tank :eek::eek:. Mind you, I have four 72" VHO bulbs mounted right in the bottom of that canopy not to mention the four 400W MH fixtures. It certainly added a bit of excitement to my night.

OH MAN! that's scary! you are so lucky that it didnt crack the tank and start a major fire because of the light. But on the plus side you got nine new fish :D cant wait to see pics
