Not that I would be any help whatsoever, but I'd like to see a pic of that too.

a short video of my new engineer goby. I'd only ever seen small specimens before this. They definately look different once they get larger. It's hard to appreciate here but this guy is about 9" long. Hopefully he'll spend more time in the open once he gets used to the tank but this is the best shot that I've gotten so far.

I didn't forget ReefSparky, Predehill, & divott either.

As I suspected the end of the cable pulled out ot the fasteners securing the end. If you look closely you can see that the inner wire pulled out of the fasteners leaving the outer plastic coating still in the fasteners.

This is about the only damage that occured to the canopy when it dropped... a little split at the top on one side. You really can't see it from floor level.

Here is a video of my blue spotted toby. IMHO, he's about the coolest puffer I've ever seen. My new clown tang is in ther with him and they seem to be getting along fine.

Thanks for the pics. You'll rarely see the plastic shroud in the field unless the environment calls for it. Although we have salt water in our tanks, IMO it's safe to skip the plastic cabling in your scenario. At the very least you might consider stripping the plastic off the ends portion where the cabling comes in contact with the U bolt. Also, if you take this route, I'd size the U bolt down slightly. Finally; make sure you tighten each nut alternatively, until both are equally tight, and at the correct torque. Your setup looked to be done correctly. In practice, the first U bolt is placed as close to the loop as possible, and the second one is spaced some distance away. When 3 are used, the two free end bolts are equally distant from the other two.

    Good luck, Doc! :)

Thanks ReefSparky. I appreciate the feedback. I think that I'll try stripping off the plastic that remains, confirming that the U bolts are as small as I can get, add a third u bolt, make sure that everything is tight, and do some serious praying. Believe me I have already returned some serious thanks that nothing was seriously damaged when that baby fell. If any of you ever give serious thought to an overhead canopy lift, shoot me a PM and I'll share what little I've learned.
