Oh man that sucks :( So sorry to hear about the difficulties. I kind of want to see the list of losses, but then I don't. You got us attached to your fish, GTS :(

Anyways I hope you can recover and get everything up and running smoothly again as soon as possible :) With all the stress you seem to be going through, you need a nice healthy tank to stare at to relieve that stress ;)

Oh so sad to hear about your losses. That's the thing with this hobby, at any given time disaster can strike. Was it because you couldn't tend to it because of work or the funeral? Did it happen out of a clear blue sky with no reasoning?

Even though you have a 550g display tank certain guidelines still need to be used to avoid disasters. Many of the fellow reefers here at 3reef mentioned that they felt that too many fish were introduced within a short period of time. It can cause a serious strain on the bioload. Is this what caused the loss? Did you check the water parameters? If they are fine you might have a bad resident.

Ques: Were all the dead fish found? Did some of them disappear? Did they get the ich? I bought three bangaii cards and they disappeared in a week. Shrimp eat dead fish. How about the anenome? He survived? I would ask an expert at that LFS you go to as to what he thinks happened and bring a water sample. From what we've seen of you here in this thread is a very knowledgeable and dilligent hobbiest. I'm very distraught by this..

wow, just spent i don't even know how long reading through this thread from start to finish. Absolutely amazing! Really sorry to hear about the life stuff and your recent loses... Prayers to you guys. How are things going though? I'm sure i'm not the only one that hope to see this turn around for you! I have this dream of a massive tank myself, my fiancee thinks i'm nuts, and i probably am. Your build has been an inspiration though for sure. Kudos x1000000 to you.

not that it makes it any better but that's an amazing tank even - the fish...

Ultimately, it seems that my Achilles tang was the first to get Ich and it spread form there. There were quite a few new and relatively new fish in the tank at the time and I didn't have any practicle way to treat the Ich or remove fish. Sadly, it came down to a case of only the strong will survive. I went for about 3 months without touching my tank at all other than to throw some food in there every day or three. I'm sure some of you can relate to a vicious circle where you have something you don't want to do, so you put it off and then things get worse and you really don't want to do it, etc...

Anyway, work settled down just a little bit (and my wife and I started a new business because a tank and 3 jobs weren't keeping my busy enough) and I finally went back out to the tank.

    yay, GTS returns!

So current tank state? Any fish make it through to now? The coral doing OK?

Has the CuC been able to keep up with the fish loss and keep nitrates, ammonia, algae outbreaks, etc. at bay? Or is there work to be done on that?

Fourteen really tough fish made it through (out of Fourty some). Nitrates and Nitrates never moved from zero and the only algae that has become a problem is pink coraline on the glass. I went so long without using the magfloat that I had to get out a rozor blade. So far I have about half the glass cleared. The corals are a bit of a mixed bag. Some have suffered but others seem to be thriving.

I do have a huge Aiptasia outbreak in one of the small tanks but thankfully I wont need scuba gear to reach them with the Aiptasia-X.

Sorry to hear about all the troubles, sounds like you have something to keep going and rearrange your tank plans around. Best of luck.
