On the topic of epidurals... that is one scary needle man.

My wife had one with our first baby. She never saw the needle but i was watching the whole thing. The the dr looks at me and says "its really really important that your wife doesn't move ...AT ALL for the next few minutes"..I looked at him with that confused collie look...

ha...murphys law would dictate that a contraction started just as he started inserting the needle... and thats exactly what happened.

Tell your wife not to move during a contraction and hour before birth... come back and tell me what she says... Its sure to get some good laughs

Now we are way off topic but that always seems ok on 3reef which is why i come here...

And stop calling me shirley. And yes, GTS posted in the "why are you who you are?" thread in the bucket that same story. He also said that the fighters who did a fly over at a NASCAR race were a part of his unit. Sooo...here's my theory.

The National Guard is known as "citizen soldiers". People who have a career one way, and are in the military another way. I suspect that GTS is in a NG unit where his day job is the sand man at a hospital, but he also has a military unit he's involved with, hence the fighters and his avatar.

    Let's see if I'm right...

that pic will give me nightmares. my wife went med free for the birth of our daughter... what a trooper.

I remember that post too Sparky. About tellin the kids to go to sleep and involving flying... maybe the epidural pic isn't really him in the same way that FTS wasn't his tank

In any event, GTS, that FTS pic got me for a minute. I was actually shaking my head in disappointment until the coralline was pointed out.

nice one! Looking forward to a picture of the box o rocks.

Excellent detective work Jwin... Do you like gladiator movies?

I enlisted in the National Guard over 20 years ago Freedom is not free and I felt that it was the right thing to do. Along the way I got some money to help pay for college and picked up a commission. Now I am an anesthesiologist during the week and split my weekends between anesthesia and being a flight surgeon for the Air National Guard. Over the years my units have flown UH-1's, UH-60's, KC-135's, F-16's, and F-22's. I've logged hours in a few other aircraft as well and jumped out of helicopters, swum through swamps, and pulled 9 G's in the centrifuge. All in all it's pretty fun for a part time job.:glasses2:

Yes I like gladiator movies. Especially the movie gladiator. :D

At first I wanted my career to be military. At best as a fighter pilot somewhere. But I couldn't be the best of the best that they were looking for. However, I am really considering joining the National Guard some time because I don't want to be a useless sack of human doing nothing to defend my country, because I know I definitely have a good mind for the military. I enjoy the "extreme" stuff, such as skydiving (planning to go as soon as some paychecks roll in), I pole vaulted in high school, and I'm in the college whitewater kayaking club. All of these wonderful outdoorsy qualities, and nothing to do with them. Plus, one of my best friends just signed away 12 years of his life to the Army. If I successfully major in Mechanical Engineering, I'm sure the NG could find a use for me :)

Drum roll please... who wants to see a bunch of pictures of Rocks in a Box?

Here's the 6' scaffolding set up in fornt of the tank.

Those boxes are full of coral and weigh 80-100 lbs each. It was a lot of fun pressing them overhead to get them up on the scaffold.

Of course the rock is going directly on the bottom of the tank so that I don't have any issues with shifting sand down the line.

For a bit of perspective, the tape measure is extended to 20"

Much of the rock is just dry stacked and I worked to find pieces that would lock together naturally. Some pieces were so big or so wobbly that I wanted an added measure of stability. As I was standing in the tank amongst the rocks that I'd already placed, I would hold a 20 lb piece of coral in one hand and my drill with a 1/2" masonary bit in the other and drill the coral inside the tank. I then used 1/2" fiberglass rods that I'd cut to roughly 6" length to help stabalize things. Here you can see one of the rods sticking up, waiting for me to set a drilled peice of coral on top of it.

This is a nice close-up of the dry Pukani that I got from BRS.
