Ahha your a Dr,well that explains the patience and disposable income. The tank is coming along very nicely. I think you've got just the right amount of rock in there. It's funny how the tank looks small with the rock in it until you see the coke can for comparision. When do you expect to start adding water and life?

I've got water in the tank!!! The first 200 gallons at least. I have pictures but I'm not posting them yet since ==Jwin== jacked up my thread I figured that I'd make him wait a bit:yelrotflm. Actually since the tank is less than half-full it doesn't really look to exciting right now. The display tank should be about full Saturday night and hopefully the whole system will be full by Monday or Tuesday.

are you putting the pink sand in before you get the water filled?

I put the first 200 gal in before the sand. I'm still trying to decide whether to put the sand in before or after the second 200 gal of water.

As I'm sure you're aware, sand will cloud water. IMO, the best scenario; barring any reasons NOT to. .. is to add the sand after the rock, then add water using a plate, or in your case, a small bucket, so as not to upset the sand too much.

Another great scenario is to add a few inches of water, then sand, smooth the sand out, and continue to fill. (This just happens to be the place where you are now.) Providing that the additional filling is done by a slow enough method (such as from an RO/DI unit) that clouding would be all but prevented, the situation is perfect.

In your current position, GoToSleep--IMO adding sand now, then continuing to fill to capacity, would be ideal.

Despite your attempts to thwart me...you will be unsuccessful. Because I was thinking about your tank earlier today, and I realized that once water gets in, it's going to take that sucker a while to cycle :p I know you'll have your lights and everything going by cycle time...but still...the waiting game is going to be a long one and this thread will be at 100 pages before you even start adding after cycling :p

Anyways, I vote that you add the sand now, so your water will be cloudy now, but will hopefully settle down at around the same times as the tank or system is filled up. Instead of waiting for everything to fill up, then adding the sand, which would just extend your time of having nothing to look at.
