    I concur:)

My R/O unit is churning away. I should have another 200 gal by Saturday afternoon.

60 lbs of live sand added to the DT tonight. It's a bit cloudy but is already starting to clear some. I put a little power head (Tunze 6205) in there for some circulation. This way my cycle officially starts tonight even before the tank is entirely filled.

The live sand is going to kick off the cycle. I think that I'm going to have some fish in the system even before the whole cycle is complete. The live sand bag says that I could add fish on the first day after the live sand as long as I don't exceed 2" of fish per gallon of water. By that yard stick I could get 140" of fish early next week. I'm not thinking of going to anywhere near those lengths but a few clowns or a tang might be in the works. I'll have to see how my early water tests look.

I love it too but my tank is only 6' long. This really limits my fish choices because I think you need at least an 8' tank to keep most of the bill fish.

Oh yea... they come in all sorts of life like varieties now and they are a lot easier to take care of than SPS.

speaking of plastic plants in a reef. I was watching a rerun of extreme maker home addition, there was an episode of a guy who had always wanted a fish tank. So they gave him what looked to be a decent size tank *not sure how big* with what looked like rock, corals, and plastic plants! and they had a bunch of fish in there already! They only shot a quick glimps of the tank but it looked so ugly with the plants, and i bet the fish and corals instantly died in the tank. lol they also gave him a bathroom counter top that was glass with a whole bunch of freshwater fish inside.

lol sorry to go off topic here but that's what the topic of plastic plants remeinded me of.

What's worse than plastic plants is those super brightly colored fake corals. The texture and look of the corals is right, but the neon yellow and pink and green is just overkill.

Yay for unofficial/offical cycle starts! Maybe you could cycle with a school of chromis or other hardy schooling fish if you want those on your stalking list. It would be some movement and life to look at as your tank cycles, and you won't have to worry about aggressive fish as you stock the tank if you go the chromis route.

We almost cycled with a chromis or two, but got our clowns to do it instead.

I think that I'm going to go with Anthias for my schooling fish. I saw some gorgeous red hybrid Anthias at the LFS yesterday but they definately aren't priced to be cycling fish. To get around the aggression/teritoriality issue, I'm going to put my early fish in the 40 gal tank so that they will be easy to retreive and I can control when they get exposed to the prime territory in the big display tank.
