My So wants a treasure chest in the tank sooo bad.

    I keep avoiding that remark.

I don’t think it will surprise anyone that a lot of planning went into getting the build this far but it still amazes me how some of the seemingly simple tasks turn out to be pretty time consuming. I spent more than 3 days working on my aquascaping and it was quite an adventure. To get things done, I first piled a few hundred pounds of dry coral on top of the 6’ scaffolding. Then I climbed into the tank and started placing rocks. Mind you most of my rocks weighed 20+ lbs and the rim of the tank was chest high on me. I’d grab a rock and then arrange it on the pile. The center brace was strategically placed so that I had to keep ducking under it as I worked on one side and then the other. If I wanted to get an accurate view of how things looked from ground level, I had to climb out of the tank and climb 7’ down to the floor. I kept a drill and a ½” masonry bit in the tank with me for the times that I needed to drill rock and place a fiberglass rod for extra stability. If you’ve never experienced standing in your fish tank with your rock work piled waist high around you, I can tell you it’s something you won’t soon forget. There really wasn’t much room to maneuver and I had a few heart stopping moments when I accidently allowed 20 lb pieces of rock to bang into the front glass as I was trying to arrange them. It sounded a lot like banging a brick against a picture window.:eek:

See if you can steer him towards a giant clam instead.

(maybe with a scuba diver stuck in it)

GTS, if any local reefer is around, borrow a couple of cups of real live sand from them. The LS in the bag is one of the biggest scams out there, and barely contain any beneficial bacteria at all.

Smell checker won't help when there are multiple ways to spell a word;)

I am going to use a bunch of PVC trimmings and fittings to raise my rock off the sandbed. Placing rock in the sand does work, but if you can elevate all the rock above the sand, you are going to get more "live" rock than if part of it is under the sand.

Granted, I know why she says to add the rock first, then sand, and that is for stability of your rocks.

I am not a fan of having rocks leaning against glass either.

But, there are a million ways to do things ona reef tank, and none are right or wrong unless it crashes your tank in one way or another;)

I know, I love smell checker:)

The best spell checker issue was once at work. One of our Electrical Engineers was adamantly opposed to doing one thing a certain way and he used the word "defiantly" when he meant to spell "definitely" He spelled it wrong, and he clicked on the first word that looked right. About 2 seconds after he sent that email to the group, he wrote another email that said "I meant definitely, stupid smell checker!!!"

    LOL

I would be an ugly woman;)

She has not pressed the treasure chest issue as of late, so I will remain quiet.:)

I did buy a nice 4" crocea from reef empire about a week ago, but I love clams, and plan on having several in my bigger tank.
