that's all i do and i've got a healthy tank. although, i'm an idiot who doesn't have 1/100th the amount of money you have invested in it. being judicial about where you get your fish is critical to a healthy tank. "saving" a sick fish from the LFS only introduces crap into the tank

The system is finally completely full. I put the last 40 gal in tonight.

I also did my first water testing:
    S.G. 1.024
    Ammonia 0
    Nitrite 0.25
    Nitrate 3 ppm

I turned the UV sterilizer on yesterday. I fugured it was worth the electric bill for some insurance against any algae getting a start in the tank.

I'm still having issues with microbubbles and noisy overflows because I haven't gotten a chance to tweak my overflow plumbing yet. I did climb a ladder and get a look down into the the overflows and I see that I have water getting sucked in through the vent hole. My overflows come up to a 90 and then another 90 back down. Kinda shaped like an upside down J. the first 90 (closest to the the down pipe) has a 1/2 hole drilled in it. Right now I'm thinking of making the hole bigger to see if that helps. If not, I may have to change that 90 out for a T with a cap on the top hole and a small hole drilled in the cap. This would let me get the vent hole higher above the water level in the overflow and should put a stop to sucking water in through the vent hole.

It looks like my tank is loosing 1 1/2 gallons a day to evaporation. This is without any fan or 1600 Watts of MH. The good news is that so far the humidity out there isn't too bad. We'll see how this holds up with the lights and fans in a few weeks.

I added another 140 lbs of live sand bringing my total to 300 lbs. The DT has about 1", the refugium has about 3" and the 40 gal has about 1". I still have some dry rock to go in the tanks... a bunch of rubble fot the sump and I've got some pieces to go in the 40 so that whatever fish wind up in there will have some shelter.

Making fresh RO water every night to replace my evaporative loss was getting old fast. This afternoon I picked up a 16 gal Rubbermaid tub and a Tunze Osmolater. Hopefully I'll get at least a temporary set-up going tomorrow.

I starting to plan for my initial fish. I'm thinking 6 true perculas (2 black, 2 orange, 2 Picasso) and a mystery wrasse.

Later additions will include a pair of orange spot rabbit fish, 7 red Lyretail Anthias and 4 Bartlett's Anthias, some pink bar gobies.

Sounds great man.. My over flow sounds like it's set up like yours. It's rather noisy.
