I love tangs from the days that I had a yellow and a regal in my 125 (I couldn't afford the kole or the purple that I really wanted to add).

I pretty sure that my tang list will need some refinement to give the the best shot at minimizing aggression in there. That's a good point on the Naso and if I cut fish from the list, the bigger ones are most likely to go.

I really like black tangs as well but I just don't see one playing well with a purple. When I figure that I can have the purple and a big school of anthias and a pair of blue throats for the cost of 1 black tang the math is pretty easy.

Yea i have to agree with you on the black tang.

They are cool and all no doubt. But people outside of the hobby are kind of like... so what a black fish. There are a few at a few different LFS around me that have them and i like the purple tangs ALOT more personally. And then when you look at the cost, for me its a no brainer

That is the last fish im going to add to my tank (purple)

Visitors to my house usually think the blue damsel and the clowns are the best... and the mushrooms

    haha

....I saw a pair of Hawaiian flame wrasses at my LFS the other day that were pretty cool. around $300 i think.

+1 on WK's sentiment. i know black tangs are expensive and super rare , i think they're only collected from like one island or something like that and they're supposedly one of the most peaceful tangs around. however, the cost/beauty ration isn't as high as a purple. i guess i just like pretty fish.

    I like Achilles tangs.
Last night Marc Levinson from melevsreef.com gave a presentation on fish rooms and in wall tanks at our local club. Sounds like a pretty big job getting the ventilation right on those big tanks and small fish rooms.

just my opinion... too many clowns... clowns are boring and everyone has them... space could be used for something more unique than 6 of them...

I would get rid of my clowns if anyone would take them... no takers :-/

But, either way, it would still be awesome. 8)

I have to agree that a big naso would be sweet in a 700g tank. They just get too big for most peoples tanks. I don't think I will even attempt one. Unless I want to have another good reason to get a huge tank upstairs. I don't think i would quite do 700g up there, but probably 400 or so.

if there is just ONE plus to this build, you will never hear the dreaded "it will outgrow your tank" followed by the obligatory reply "i'm planning on upgrading" lol. to upgrade this system you're going to have to grow gills and move underwater

To throw my 2 cents into the ring, I would probably rethink the larger tangs like the Naso and Vlamingii (maybe even the Achilles, I know of one Achilles owner that thinks 8' is minimum tank size), even though the volume of the tank is huge you still only have a 6 foot tank (unless that changed at some point, I just rechecked the first couple pages for the dims) and the longest straight run you can accomplish is less than 7' if you leave the diagonal open with your rock-work. I've heard several people talk about 6' being too short for the larger tangs when they're full grown.

Just some ideas to consider, the tank is looking great though!

6 ocellaris clowns (some black, some orange)
    2 blue throat triggers
11 anthias (red lyretail, and Bartlett’s)
    Wrasses: Christmas, Mystri, Leopard
Tangs: Regal, Chevron, Purple, Sailfin, Achilles, Naso, Kole, Vlamingi
    Blue Spot Jawfish
    2 Orange Spot Rabbitfish
    Watchman Goby (and Pistol shrimp)
    Borbonius anthias
Still trying to decide which clams to put in there[/QUOTE]

OK lets see. Clams need a lot of light I'd check with someone of experience before I'd lay them 4' down. I'm still big on a cleanup crew to eat up a lot of algae and detritus. I have a lot of snails and hermits. My 2 cleaner shrimp and my 2 blood red shrimp keep my fish healthy. Make sure any fish you get is reef friendly. It's not so much weather they eat corals but they can easily knock them over as they may be rough on the rocks when they want to get at something or even go to sleep(triggers). I really want to see your tank with the fish in it. Here are pics I took yesterday of my 210g.

The Black Tang comes from the Marshall Islands and is a very peaceful, hardy and beautiful fish. One of the lfs's in my area has one in their display tank I did take a picture of it for the benefit of those that have never seen one check it out. They are costly starting at a minimum over $400. The one in the picture is worth a lot more than that.
