    FWIW, clams can live quite far under the surface in the wild.

    I have personally seen clams as far as 40' or so of water in fiji.

    Now some like croceas need more light, but those like to live on the rocks.

    Also, if one were to take PAR levels of a 40' reef, you would be surprised how low the levels are compared to our tanks. GTS has more than enough light to house clams anywhere in his tank, IME.
