That was my suspicion as well. My early pH readings (prior to adding rock) were around 8.2-8.3

Hey don't fear the worst. I have a Yellow Watchman that gets lost for a day or two. Yeah and shrimp can molt. I was so scared the first time I saw the molt. I was totally unaware of such happenings. I look back now and laugh!;D

Don't be so sure. Shrimp sometimes molt as a stress reaction so it's quite possible that your shrimp is still alive and kicking. If it is, don't expect to really see it much unless you get it to pair up with a goby as they tend to be quite shy, what with being nearly blind and all.

It really does look like a molt but if it is, it's quite a coincidence. The stupid shrimp is usually so well hidden that it may wee be days before I know for sure. Especially since I figure that he would really lay low for a while after a molt.

Yeah, chin up, GTS. You might not know for a few weeks. Shrimp can be reclusive. I have a beautiful blood shrimp, and I only see him every week or so, or for a second or two during feedings. I certainly didn't sign up for that.

And Annick--if my grandmother's name was Goby, you'd have been describing my grandfather when he was around. Right on the money! :)

I put the aurora goby in there for him. They were paired up in the tank at the LFS but that was only a 30 and I don't think that either knew that the other was in their new home.

After his goby jumped out of the tank, I don't think we saw our pistol shrimp for about two weeks. We added a watchman goby and fortunately, they paired up right away and we saw our shrimp again! Big difference between a 30 and a 700! The shrimp and goby probably think they've been released into the ocean! :) I hope the shrimp is ok and just hiding somewhere.

I bought a cleaner shrimp that molted the day after I got it. Everything was fine after that
