I'm loving him too. I wasn't sure initially because I like the idea of starting with small fish and watching them all grow up together but my LFS suggested this guy. I wanted a sailfin anyway and they made the point that having at least one large fish in the tank now will serve to draw peoples interest to the tank and than they can appreciate the (relatively) smaller stuff in there.

Also, as fast as my diatom bloom came on, it is disappearing. I'm not sure how much of this is due to the normal diatom life cycle, the 70 gal water change that I did (first water change for the tank), or the four new tangs that I added. The mimic tang and the kole tang in particular are really working on the algae. My wife was worried a few days ago because she thought that she saw a few wisps of GHA and I gave her flashbacks of our last tank with everything covered in it. Thankfully, whatever she saw is gone now. I'm hopeful that the combination of RO/DI, low nutrients, and a good clean up crew will keep us from ever going through that agian.

Speaking of CUC's, I placed my reef cleaners order this weekend and should have a few snails by Friday.

I hear that crap from my wife every time the electric bill comes in. I should just take over paying the bills and I wouldn't have to listen to it anymore... :-/

Most don't factor in a budget to run the tank, they just factor in a budget to set it up.

For better or worse, once you move into custom tank land, operating costs are a relatively small piece of the pie. I should help that I have a calcium reactor (if I ever finish setting it up) and that should save me quite a bit of ongoing dosing expense. I still don't have a chiller. If it turns out that I need one, that would be a big hit to the electric bill.

Otty, I'm curious to note from your signature that your MH's are off at 2:43 in the afternoon. Are you running some sort of alternative light cycle?

My guess would be he is slowly increasing the light period from his recent fiasco. check the last page of his thread.

Only he knows for sure tho;)

I like the lights to be on when I am home and not at work. They come on at 3:30 and go off at 10:00. In one more week I will take them back to 7 hrs coming on at 3:00 and the actinics running 16 hrs a day from 9:00am to 1:00 am. Plus in the summer it help keep the house heat down.

When you going to get a signature up and running.... :)

Signature when i figure out my controller, LOL. I tried to get my lights hooked up to it last night but couldn't figure out how to program the digital power bars through the Profilux unit itself. I'm sure it's easy once you know how to do it. In the mean time, I just need to get around to downloading the Prodilux software to my laptop and then program the controller through that route. For the moment, I am the proud owner of the world's most expensive digital thermometer ::). It's going to take me quite a while to get everything exactly the way I want it sine my system is realtively spread out. The controller is located about 12' away from my sump and the light ballasts are about 12' away from the tank and the controller. I actually wound up dropping my temperature probe into one of the overflows on the tank since the 9' cord wouldn't reach to the sump. There are extension cables available for all the sensors but it's a matter of time and money to get them purchased and run.
