I've been looking on craigslist and ebay for a nice cheap aquac remora for about a month. I found someone selling one the otherday so I went to go check it out, he only wanted $45 for the skimmer and the mj1200 pump!!! he was extremely nice and threw in a tap water filter for free! He even gave me priceless tips and advise about reef keeping that help a ton. It was an awsome deal from an awsome person.

by the way the tap water filter that he gave me is call "tap water filter" made by aquarium pharmaceuticals inc. I read the box and it says it filters out nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, silicate, phosphate, copper, and many other stuff. the question is can I filter my tap water with this and would it have the same effect as RO/DI water?

its not going to be nearly as effective as RO/DI. it will pull out alot of the things you don't want maybe 70-90% of them, but RO/DI is going to be 100% clean.

when i was new to the hobby i used one and had horrible algae issues. RO/DI is much better

API makes a DI standalone unit, which will be just as good as RODI, except it won't last nearly as long between filter changes.
