My freshman year un college grades are in...
    Last semester I got 3As and 2Bs and 1C. 12hours worth
    This semester I got 4Bs and 1C. 16hours worth
My gpa is a 2.84 :( and I am extremely disappointed because I worked my butt off for each class....

I'm trying I get into medical school and this is really disappointing... I need a 3.4 to get accepted.

I know this only gets harder so it's really discouraging to raise it...

Sorry about that....This is just me venting:-/

Bummer deal, I work very hard on my grades as well. Maybe your grades are suffering because you are taking too many credits?

Well first semester was pretty good. It was this semester that brought me down.
And I did take too many clases because since first semester was so easy I thought a little more wouldn't hurt... It did.....

Now I'm scared I won't be able to pull it back up :(

You can re-take any class that you would like and they will keep your better grade.

I think I'll retake the ones I got a C on and make it a B or an A... Hopefully that works..

I'm transferring to Texas A&M commerce ao I'll take that as an opportunity to retake those 2... :/

I did the whole pre-med thing as well. My doctor and I had a pretty close relationship (he wanted me to intern at his hospital). His comment to me was one that still irks me a bit. In essence, you don't have to major in nuclear physics to go into medicine. I think he was a history major and his wife (who is also a doctor) majored in something else that wasn't directly related to medicine. As long as you get the pre-med requirements done, you're fine I guess. That would certainly boost your GPA.

Things that help in college were changing the ways I studied,

Figure out whether the instructor using question out of the book or lecture questions.

    Book: Highlighter heaven.
Lecture: There are always a few, but the majority are from the book. Spend your time where most of the question will come from.

If I did not know an answer of a question, move on and go back if you have time. Do not go back and change answers.

Study groups, the while they can be annoying, sometimes you get the answers that you might miss or think were not important. Healthy competition is good as well, I always had to beat miss know it all.

Lastly get rid of distractions, phones, family, friends.

As missionsix already posted you can go back and retake classes.

Do not be too hard on your self, you will get there.

This is good advice, though I'd like to add to it.

I'm a TA at the University of Iowa. Some classes really ask a fair amount of application or extension of knowledge questions. They also tend to build on material from previous classes as well as material in the semester. The biggest mistake I see students making is they start falling behind and don't worry about going through the process of learning material that is important later on. It's like they think they'll only see the material once. This simply isn't true.

Make use of your instructor's office hours. If you're unsure of anything, ask! There's nothing more frustrating than a student struggling that won't seek help. Often times, we know you're struggling, but some times it can be hard to see where you're having the issue. I can't speak for all TAs, but I don't judge any of my students for what they do or don't know but I certainly enjoy when they come by my office hours to seek help. Keeping up on the material and seeking challenging or application questions can really help your understanding.

Just FYI, I don't ask any questions from lecture or from the book. It's all short answer questions or application questions. (I'm in Biology). All focusing on why things are important or done a certain way and how students know something from a data set. These types of classes are the easiest to fall behind in.

It may also be worth noting that I may not be in the majority of the way most science courses are taught. I'm in my 3rd year of my PhD program for Science Ed and I hate regurgitation questions, so I don't ask them... even though it means it takes me a lot longer to grade assignments.
