The plan is for 2 inches of sand in a 14" cube. What is an appropriate grain size? I would like to be able to vacuum it occasionally, unless someone has a compelling reason not to. So...

    1) What grain size

    2) vacuum or no touch

Oh, and what about the fuge? (half of a 5.5 gallon)

I'd use CarribSea SeaFlor Special in the dt. And this is just a suggestion but for the fuge maybe a dsb of 2" sugar sand with 2-3" of CarribSea on top of it.
Don't do what I did and put sugar sand in your dt. What a newb mistake that was.

If you plan on having corals that require good flow it will blow it all over the tank.

What pgoodsell said...it's a mess and took me months to find a happy medium between good flow to my corals that need it and keeping the sand on the floor.

I just looked up Carribsea Seaflor and it says it is Puka shell. What's a Puka? Is this better than Aragonite or just different?

yeah. that stuff I linked to you is what I put in my fuge. Wish I'd done it the other way around but the fuge came a month after the tank.

Okay, thanks for all your help Monkey. I think that is about the size of the stuff in my 24 gal and I don't hate it. So I will just buy 2" worth of that stuff from the LFS when I get to that point. K++ for all your input.
