This is going to sound like a weird one but... Some 20 years ago my grandma went on vacation to Florida. She was an arts and crafts kinda of lady so she made these good sized jars of the pretty white Florida beach sand with shells and sand dollars and the such for her kids (my dad being one). Flash forward 20 years I am setting up my reef tank I and I am just going to need a few pounds of sand to dust the places that the LR don't take up. Would this stuff be safe to use  It smells clean and I think it came from a state park on the gulf of Mexico. I sure she didn't know that was probably illegal. Any thoughts? It nice white sugar sand.

test it first. kinda cruel if you use live animals but then you'd rather lose a cheap damsel (or guppy if you test in freshwater) rather than your tank.

If it was 20 years ago I can guarantee you that it doesnt have 1/4 the pollution that the sand has today. And BTW there's nothing illegal about taking florida sand, only liverock :)

Matt used beach sand in one of his aquariums. I believe he just wanted some live critters to get things going. It's in one of these sand threads.
