While doing a water change today I hooked up a phosban reactor with phosguard to get my phosphates down after some mysis parties in my tank.

However, I really didn't want to put another pump in my sump and have to plug it in somewhere... so I grapped a old Hagen u-pipe that just happened to measure perfectly, putting the input right below my water line (no drama with power outages) and made my reactor gravity-fed!

EDIT - the only thing I had to redo was the return line - I had to make it longer so I could start a siphon without jamming my head into the stand. Once I did that, I gave a quick pull and it fired right up. I primed the reactor before hand by filling with new saltwater. I previously rinsed the phosguard. FYI

Kinda goes along with my gravity-fed refugium. I am loving gravity. :) Nothing hard here, but I like it!

    Thanks!
2 days in - no issues - I don't see air build up. Looking good.

That certainly does facilitate things. May I ask you how much was the total for the whole project in parts and media?

I believe that even if it gets bubbles inside, gravity will take care of it. It would take a lot of bubbles to stop the siphon.

I really need to get me a phos-ban and calcium reactors. This daily dosing thing is starting to get old! :)

Aye - it doesn't cost much at all. This is a very handy reactor to have. @Magnus - you might be right about gravity taking care of the bubbles.. I'll keep watching though. No leaks either.
